Two months after Everquest came out , I began playing. I have wanted to quit the game so many times it isn't funny, but I've never been able to bring myself to push Cancel Subscription. So in all fairness, no, I dont think I'd be able to cancel my account simply due to the massive amount of time invested and friends I get to talk to. However, assuming as furor said, WoW is everything you've ever wanted in a MMORPG, WoW would definitely take over for my game addiction... i'd just have to keep EQ account going.

…my two EQ accounts. I was quite busy and really couldn't play like I want to. That said, I could still play 8 to 15 hours a week but just wasn't getting what I wanted out of EQ. I don't need EQ to stay in touch with the friends I have in EQ, that is what forums and email are for.

I am not sure if Sony realizes WTF is about to happen. With or without this web page, people are really disgusted with what EQ turned into. And without re-hashing all the crap that has been so eloquently stated, I would rather play nothing at all than play EQ. There are plenty of other games to play, countries to invade, et al.

My main account was banned for a bunch of bullshit basically. So my other 3 characters are just going to rot away now--- because I dont play my Main for 3 years, get Time keyed and equipped and accept being banned due to fraud. The cleric, rogue, and enchanter can just rot imo--- that being said..

I definitly intend to cancel my remaining 3 EQ accounts for WoW-- if WoW itself isnt enough, just because SOE Pisses me the fuck off.

Definitely

I will and already have cancelled my accounts with SOE.

Blizzard has shown remarkable promise in everything that they have developed since 1993. That's a major accomplish for pretty much any developer out there to withstand 10 years of grueling competition.

As a side note, will FoH be recruiting at all for WoW?

heh

even if EQ was 30 a month, i'd find somehow to pay for it...i've put to much time into the game to go and say ''ok EQ2/WoW/Random_MMORPG_01 is going to totally replace this game''

i'd probably honestly just keep it up for the simple fact of i've put tons of time into it, i've had a lot of good memmories, the character's i've created/played are things that represent what i've done in the game and stuff.

in all honesty EQ is far from the worst of games...sure SoE are a bunch of slackass's at times but hey they keep the game running and with the new graphic engine/char models i think im going to like it even more than i do now. i think im one of the few people who actually still have a lot of fun in EQ, and im haveing even more fun now that i transfered my war/monk to a pvp server. its a big change and way different, a lot of fun too.

This is moot for me. I quit EQ a while ago. I started out when it first hit the shelf. My roommate and I created a druid and took it to 50 then used it to power lvl toon after toon then sold them on the internet for a fortune. We made thousands, actually took off a year from work to harvest toons. But now, years later, having a wife, kids along with a full time job, on top of the community activities we do there is simply no more time for MMORPG's. I replaced my PC with an XBox and I when I get time to play I pop in Halo and have fun, and if I have to log off at a moments notice I don't have to worry about insulting other players by leaving a group right that second.

Even if I hadn't already cancelled my EQ account, I would cancel the day WoW came out simply because Blizzard still cares about making games while making profit, something SOE has abandoned long ago. Blizzard actually makes good games, while Sony Online merely keeps finding new ways to suck.

So if I could cancel my EQ in an MMO vacuum, hellz yeah I would cancel if I had WoW to play.

The bigger question for me is will I play both WoW and SigilQuest at the same time?

I'm a casual gamer, so I only have time to play one game at a time.

With the caviat that I like WoW better than EQ, I would have no problem cancel my 2 EQ accounts. I can't see paying $26 per month (over $300 per year) on a game that I wouldn't give my full attention to.

I'll try WoW when it comes out. I'm not a complicated person... I know that I'll play the one I like more often and after that, it won't take much to press the cancel button.

It's not so much as a "Screw you, SoE!".... it's more of a conscious decision not to pay for something I won't use.

In my experience as an account sales broker, unless you sell your account (or something equally as drastic, such as formatting your HD and trashing your CD's), 99% of the time that person will always come crawling back. And in some cases people even buy 2nd and 3rd generation accounts for themselves.

I can't even count how many times back in the day people would "quit", come back a week later, quit, Oh I didn't get the Vulak robe, my life is ooooovvvveeeerrrrr, and then they don't get into FoH when they cross-server app because of something like that. That was all hypothetical of course!

e.g. One of my friends had me sell his account, then a month later he leveled back up and was in the uber guild again, then sold again, then bought another account and I sold that again for him.

Bottom line EQ is one addictive, shitty game. If you've quit like me, and you think back into all the hundreds of hours wasted, I can remember about 35% bull shit clearing and buffing, and CR'ing, and 60% drama, and then 5% fun times.

I am only screwing around in EQ because I am bored.... I quit before and went back because a few RL friends needed help with their guild, now they on track again and I can once again raise the middle finger in a salute of FU SoE!
Hell, once I make WoW beta I will cancel my account(s)... no need to wait for retail to do this.

I had hopes that EQ2 might be an interesting game, mainly for the graphics. Yes, I am easily enthralled by simple pleasures, like 3D graphics... and no not the female ass shot-type enthralled but a seriously beautiful game. Like when Anarchy Online first came out... damn, those sunsets were fucking breath taking.
EQ2 held this impact... untill I re-started EQ... in the year and some months back playing, I have seen sevral added expantions and the new way to shaft the customer's with the "order it on-line" crap... only to pay the same price and not even get the crappy token gift in-game and in the box.

The skinny of this post.... EQ2 had my interest but I think they will carry this trend over to EQ2 by shitting out an expantion every 3-5 months that is lacking and bugged. Maybe not off the bat... but maybe a year after release the cycle will start.

Good point Zerrus on EQ2.

I was looking forward EQ2, but man after having seen the last few EQ expansions and SWG, and knowing EQ2 will probably be dessigned by the same dev team... makes you think twice...

Lets just say you leave Eq and Delete your account and WoW isent all its held up too be Such as the DaOc crisis. Will you go back to eq? wait for eq 2? play lineage 2 or play ff online?

WoW does not Pull me twords it it looks kinda childish to me. might just be me. Lineage though looks good as well as Eq 2. ff online is ok but as i am a rapid FF fan and online version completely ruins it for me and now i wait for Whats after the Tradgedy nown as FF x-2.

I expect problems and rough times in WoW...
If and a very big if, WoW flops, after giving it a few months, least a year for some, to let WoW mature, I might quit WoW.

(saying WoW would flop for sake of question)
As for going back to EQ after the WoW flops? I might if a brand new server started up. No transfers allowed untill least 6 months (I would like atleast one year) but to go back to my old server, old characters and old server problems?
No.

If EQ will not add another "re-roll" server, then I would maybe go back to Anarchy Online. I really liked the game... it was visually stunning and with the new (kinda new) ShadowLands expantion, I think the game has added enough interest for another romp.
