That's what I heard as well. Not sure if it was just a fanboi rumor or actual announcement.

Blizzard had on their WoW FAQ for a long time that beta is expected to begin in Q4 2003. Personally I don't think that's exactly an "announcement" on Blizzard's part, just an estimate (as it always is with Blizzard). At Gen Con a dev supposedly said that Q4 was no longer plausible, so it was speculated by the fanbase that Q1 2004 would be an appropriate time for beta release. As the original poster said, it is now "official" that the beta will be released in Q1 2004.

do you people actually research this stuff at all?

u people actually research a game so much you find out what people are employed by the company making it and call them by their initials? and expect other people to know? god damn, man.

i thought fiending over a game that isnt even in beta yet is bad enough. but god, if u got notin better to do then sit there and memorize all the blizzard employee's names then maybe you need something better to do with your time.

I knew his initials right off the bat because his name on the WoW forums is "GFraizer", it has nothing to do with sitting at my computer and memorizing anything.

Rather than release an inferior candidate to meet a specific date, we have chosen to further test World of Warcraft internally until we feel the game will allow for a productive beta test.
Oh no, I'm getting flashbacks of the Diablo 2 1.10 patch.

Lots of people would recognize who "GF" is. And not because of WoW. There is a reason why people can recognize him by his initials, at least when referencing blizzard games anyway.

Lol wow check out this off the official blizzard webpage

Over the past few weeks, it has become apparent that the World of Warcraft beta will not be available within the fourth quarter of 2003. The development team is currently hard at work testing the alpha version of the game, and we look forward to bringing you an outstanding beta in early 2004.

Our goal is to always make the best games possible, and a critical part of the development process includes the public beta test. This means that we will not release the final product or any other component of the game until it's ready. Rather than release an inferior candidate to meet a specific date, we have chosen to further test World of Warcraft internally until we feel the game will allow for a productive beta test.

Announcements concerning the beta test, along with additional details about the game, will be released in the near future. We encourage you to check this official Web site for further updates. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

Pretty smart of them to recognize that, even though it's foolish and unreasonable to get angry at a company for wanting to have the beta start at the right time rather then when they originally hoped that time would be, apologizing to the masses still makes the idiots happy.

Step back for a second and realize this is BLIZZARD. Anyone who expects their soft dates to be anywhere near accurate hasn't paid much attention to Blizzard's trackrecord...

they're probably having too much fun with internal testing to split open the pinata quite yet. I wouldn't want some of those b.net guys infesting the place either...how likely are Diablo haxxorz to report any exploitable bugs they find, honestly? "l0z u r n00bee i r having 10000 GPs alredy fr0m sumth1n i found3d in t3h betz0r t3st FUROR IS TEH GAY!"

i memorize their names, their children's names, their children's paths home from school, and their phone numbers. just so i can make those creepy phone calls on their recorder from the car while i follow the kids home, all the while complaining about pre-alpha admission and game balance. oh and sometimes i talk about cheetos versus cheese puffs

Delay is not a problem also because it s blzzard. You know they can afford that delay and don't have to meet whatever date a publisher told them or die.
