+7 Internets | The Colony (Discovery Channel) The Colony: About the Show : Discovery Channel I am very interested in this show, but I am concerned about some of the things that they might do with the show: I hope they do not turn this into a Survivor type show. I hope there are no teams and no chances to earn food rewards or gadget rewards. I hope that there are not people removed or exchanged or rewards earned, like letters or videos from family members. I hope that they are not required to build certain gadgets by a particular time. Like having battery banks and water by day 2, working cooker by day 4, etc... I guess what I should be saying is- I hope they put these people in a particular area that they are not allowed to leave and leave them alone for 10 weeks. (Edit - ok, so there will be 'attacks' from thieves and traders that interact with them. Didnt read the episode guide before posting. Still, other than this shit, which is somewhat realistic, I hope they leave it alone) (Edit2 - Now that i think about it. It would be pretty fucking awesome if they had a t-800 endoskeleton come in their camp one night while they were asleep. Wake their asses up to that thing smashing and destrying things trying to get to them.) Last edited by Brad2770; 07-13-2009 at 08:52 AM.. |

+4 Internets | It was interesting. There are some contrivances, but its a reality show on basic cable so you have to give them that. They had some neat ideas, like the water system, that were fun to watch. Spoiler Alert, click show to read: |

| Worth watching? I was looking forward to this because Discovery Channel has been in a bit of a dry spell with new programming lately. Deadliest Catch and Cash Cab are cool, but c'mon.

| been watching the first 2 episodes, its utterly ridiculous, they stumble onto this "abandoned" warehouse which just so happens to have the materials they need for everything. its fully stocked with hoses, welder's torches, flashlights, lightbulbs brand new power tools and so on. why pick a warehouse anyway? why not a nice home since this is post apocolyptic world? the idea of "marauders" is also fucking dumb because its really not scary to see these "outlaws" with 3 camerman standing next to them filming unharmed. that being said, its mildly entertaining so will watch it til i cant stand anymore. edit i did like some things, this show while having a huge suspension of disbelief curve is also educational. never knew you could make a gasoline engine run with fumes from burning wood. that was pretty slick. +3 Internets | It's a scenario and role playing, the "badguys" are stupid but what did you expect, gang rape and slavery like would really happen if shit went down?

+3 Internets | This show has kind of gotten better over time, although, two things: 1. They predictably went for the stupid ass flamethrowers and "mines" for weapons when pepper sprays, and chemical/acid powders would have been so much easier to rig up. 2. I so wanted the "trader" in the last episode to start asking them how much they wanted for on of the women just to see their reactions.

When they said they wanted just "one more thing", my first thought was one of the women. Hah. I would have been glad to trade that mouthy chick for the bananas. | |

| seemed kinda silly to let a machine gun mounted truck inside the compound when all they have to defend themselves is rocks and sticks. did they really need gasoline? i mean every single abandoned car is likely to have a few gallons of the stuff, all it needs is a hose. That one old guido mike used all their oranges and kept saying we get em free! that shit isnt in infinite supply and could be all gone the next time they go for more. that aside i liked the flamethrower and cattle prod, even though i probably would have thought of something more defensive like a network of bear pits or reinforcing the windows and tin walls with steel bars. next week's episode looks like it might be interesting. |

| Yea, the potential for danger isn't really there when you know the marauders can't do anything. It also says experts come and give advice in life threatening situations. If the colonists truly believed they could get severely hurt or die, I doubt they would have signed up. The martial arts girl and the medic are basically worthless. The amount of drama is ridiculous for basically just roleplaying, but I guess it wouldn't make a good show if no one believed anything was really happening. I'm still waiting for the realistic version of these types of shows where they use convicts on deathrow instead of volunteers. (though I doubt that would lead to any kind of productivity as far as this show is concerned) That will be the day reality TV redeems itself.

| Most recent episode was awesome. Those were some realistic fights that broke out there. Whats with the big dude letting the trainer kick him in the face? That was the most tarded acting performance I've ever seen.
