| Doesn't work like that, he needs the guy's channels, contacts, money, and work ethic (or lack thereof). It's implied the dude nearly single handedly launched him into the position of being a King, and a dude like that is not exactly easily replaceable any way you slice it. The dude's replacement might not be as keen to the King's way of doing things, or it might set of a chain of events that the King doesn't want to happen. There's any number of explanations of why he doesn't kill him.

| Ok even buying all that and even saying a King is nice enough to let most that mouthing off slide. When he threatened to take away the kingdom that's it. That's game over. The seriousness of threat cannot be understated and to say it to a King ? If he is going to lose a kingdom to this guy then he sure as fuck should going to burn this guy in acid first.

| Not really, not if the end result is the same either way, and the potential for salvage is greater if the dude lives and can be managed or brought around.

+29 Internets | You think that uncle is just mouthing off at the King with no leverage? I am pretty sure he has it setup that if anything happens to him, steps are taken. One, having his sister as the queen means he has influence in the family more than just the treasury. I imagine the queen, who probably sleeps with or near the king sometimes, would not like her brother assassinated. many Kings throughout history have had people in their court that were against them and even actively against them, but that doesn't mean you just kill them. People, even enemies, have their uses.

+2 Internets | I caught this show on hulu due to this thread...it's pretty damn good. I think part of the reason it has low ratings is marketing. I'll be honest, prior to reading this thread I had no idea that the show even existed. I remember I saw a viral ad for the Kingdom of Gilboa or whatever like 5-6 months ago and I couldn't figure out what the hell it was. Never saw any commercials or ads otherwise. I asked around and none of my friends have heard of the show either. I talked to a good 7 or 8 people and none of them had so much as heard of the show; no "oh yeah I heard about that but haven't seen it" or anything, they had absolutely no idea what the show was, what channel it was on, the premise etc. Regardless of any of that, even with how good the show is I can't help but feel how outstanding it could be if it was on HBO or something. I feel like some of the plot lines that could at least theoretically come up are topics that you can't fully address on network tv. Last edited by Obsidian; 03-24-2009 at 01:11 PM.. |

+29 Internets | HBO is developing "A Song of Ice and Fire" that will be their "Kings"

| A properly developed A song of fire and ice would be leagues above this show and this show is really fucking good.

+9 Internets | This show would be better without David. I find myself losing interest during his scenes, but I'm riveted to my seat whenever King Silas is on screen. I'd prefer if they just dropped the whole David/Bible angle and just did a Sopranos-esque drama about the royal family. p.s. Ian McShane is awesome. |

A lot of parallels here to the power relationship between small/medium countries and huge multinationals in the real world. David is a little sappy, but cute, so I don't care that much. He reminds me of the guy from the Dune Syfy miniseries, but less creepy looking. The Queen is really hilarious now, though.

Also, ASoIaF would be set in medieval times, while I think the idea of Kings being set in modern times is what makes it so interesting. This is not to say I don't welcome the ASoIaF series though. HBO has built up a fuckton of credit with me over the past decade and I'm really psyched about the idea of Rome-quality series set in that universe. | |

| NBC didn't market Kings AT ALL, so it's not a surprise. All they needed to do was run an ad that said ITS THE BIBLE... ON TV!!! and half of America would tune in. (It being on Sunday is a nice bonus.) Throw in someone comparing it to "Left Behind" and it would be the new show to beat. |

| I am not sure how you guys can say it wasn't marketed at all. Marketed poorly with the wrong message maybe, but I have seen shit about this show everywhere. Hell there is even a commercial about it on the Role Models DVD. |
