and then David fucks a married women, bathsheba, has a kid with her, and murders her husband. The story of King David is pretty fucked up and would have been pretty fascinating, oh well. I thought it was an interesting enough way to end it, the further mystical gotchas they put in (ghost priest? God "talking" to Silas?) felt to me kind of showing that the God of the old testment was involved and active, whereas the god of the new testament is a bit more hands off.

I know I'm really late to the party, but holy crap. Caught the first episode last night, and I looked to my wife and said "I was just treated to an entertainment blowjob." And I meant every word. The title of this thread does not lie. But yeah if they stop after 12 episodes or whatever I will be a sad panda...I think it'll be worth the journey though, if the first episode is any indication.

Loved this show but for the last 3-4 episodes almost every major character except David in several ways were completely out of character and pulled complete 180's in a feeble attempt at forcing drama into places it shouldn't have been. Really bad writing for many of the characters. Wish there was a second season, the setup for it was quite good barring the few terrible writing decisions.

I'm speaking of things that I don't think the biblical story ever addresses. Does Michal really abandon David in the moment of his greatest need after she has proved countless times throughout the story that she's a woman who will stand up and fight for her beliefs to the death, for fear of her father killing her? Well in the show it might be assumed she did this for fear of her unborn child's death as well but then the very next episode she again puts her and her child's life up for her beliefs. If her betrayal to David was really in the Bible then maybe the terrible writing decision was in making her a "strong, independent woman" stereotype to begin with or in making her show such strong emotions that she was going to help him only to end up not showing up at the trial. This is one example of many I'm not going to write out and yes, some of them are very justified by the biblical story such as Jonathan backing up David after having opposed him and Saul's general wishy-washyness. Those aren't the ones I was referring to.

Its very, very, very loosely based on the bible afaik, not much really matches up other than character names and basic plot line. For example Jonathan never once is mentioned as being jealous or disliking David, in fact they kiss and act pretty gay towards each other. Saul is also never overthrown by his son/brother in law, Michelle is given as a "prize" to David for killing Goliath/palestines, she is unmarried after David falls out of favor, Samuel is the father (i think?) of Saul not the preacher, etc.
