I loved every second of it. Just can't stand the actor of Silas's brother-in-law.

Ian McShane is really good as always. I miss Swearengen but this role can really shine if they do it right.

The premiere was excellent but with a Heroes writer on board I'm forecasting a 50% chance of train wreck later.

i thought it was ridiculous. but it will do as filler for when there is nothing else on. what a crappy king, there is no feeling of regality at all. he doesnt even look presidential.

Ian Mcshane was good, had some great lines but yeah he didn't feel very King like to me. He got shit on constantly. Needs to command more respect, maybe off a few people who disrespect him. Our current president gets more respect then he does. And is probably questioned less. Only thing that stood out was how he told the reporter what to say all the time.

He had one of his cabinet members whacked for insulting him.

Pretty sure that was the Royal Historian, not a reporter.

Now, we could argue over whether he was sufficiently regal, but not making him have absolute power makes it at least feasible that various individuals could have a chance of screwing him over, rather than being whacked by the secret service as soon as they start hatching a plot.

I really enjoyed the premiere, but the whole time I was watching it I thought about the fact that it seemed far too "smart" for your average television viewer. And for that reason alone I don't expect it to last too long.

I was talking to people at work about it before it was on, and then again this morning, and as soon as I said "It's an alternate timeline where there is a King instead of a President, and it really isn't the US but basically is..." I could see the deer in the headlights look and knew they'd never watch the show.

Unfortunately most of the people that post on a board like this, while I don't want to go all crazy and say we're actually intelligent, we're much more open to a show that doesn't fit your normal niche. Fuck, Heroes was way too complicated for most of the people I work with (back when it was actually good) and people were asking stuff like "Wait, but how can he fly?", so how is Kings going to last?

Liked it quite a bit, im a sucker for alternate timeline stuff, wish there was more to their website, some maps, a little more history outside of character bios and stuff.

"Kings is a modern-day soap about a hero who rises to become the King of his nation, based on the biblical story of King David."

Honestly, had I read that before I watched the show, I almost guaranteed would not have given it a chance. Now that I've watched the show, I'm even more intrigued.

Ratings are in and they are abysmal - we're talking Dollhouse level.

I'm not even sure NBC will air all 13 episodes at those ratings.

its no surprise this show is a complete ratings failure. the premise of a USA ruled by a king is asking for trouble. For one, the whole King thing is the direct opposite of what americans are about. plus the country just got over 16 years of 2 people running everything with varying degrees of success depending on your point of view.

americans want new blood and not some douchebag with a lifetime appointment of getting to run shit and being treated like a deity. The brits will hate this show too for the fact that this american king is a fucking chump with no class, no style and no historic lineage to back him up. i honestly dont know why people like this show. anyone care to fill me in on what you liked about it?

Thats why I wanted to read more about it online, for all we know Shiloh is just new england and the United States we know is 8-10 different countries now. Gath might be New Hampshire, or it might be Canada. We saw so little, but then again maybe thats how much we're supposed to care, with the focus instead on the drama.

I hate to admit it but I did the same thing. But it's getting such good reviews that I might have to DL it and check it out.

Disagree. While the USA doesn't want a king, the country -is- fascinated by the idea of it. Look how much attention is given to the British royal family? How the idea of being "a princess" is driven into the brains of all young girls as they watch Disney cartoons? Our fascination with royalty lines that are super fucking rich?

The idea and the reality are two different things, but people generally are very interested in the idea part as a means of thought exercise/fantasy fulfillment.
