| As far as Hajime No Ippo: The New Challenger goes, do you need to watch the first show to know whats going on, or at least to understand the background of the characters? I would just watch Fighting Spirit cause I heard its good, but really don't want to watch 70+ episodes.

| Yeah, you pretty much need to watch the previous series. It plops you right into the storyline right after the previous series took place. There's a ton of character development that you'd be missing. There's no reason at all to skip it either, it's an amazing series from start to end and definitely one of the most worthwhile "long" series to watch. |

| Damn, did not want to hear that. The only show that could keep my interest past the 52 episode mark was FMA, and even then I started to drift a little bit.

| You'd probably be disappointed if you start with The New Challenger. It's a pretty realistic series, but a few moves are super exaggerated in the 2nd season. And the main character is a high school student who starts his career as an amateur with no boxing experience so half of the fun is seeing his progression. Oh yeah and Umineko No Naku Koro Ni(When the Seagulls Cry) looks pretty good from the first episode. The atmosphere and character introductions makes me think it's like a game of Clue, but there will definitely be supernatural elements since the series is related to Higurashi. | is FMA going too fast or is it just me? I know they're trying to avoid copycatting the first run and getting to the manga stuff, but #13 seemed like it jammed way too much into it. I don't want to see them run into the same thing as the other series' out there that keep having to crank out filler every few weeks so the manga can get ahead.

It feels incredibly rushed to me, but I guess I prefer this pace over the other popular shonens that move as fast as a snail covering 1-1.5 chapters per episode. | |
