Also, this is the best new season of anime for a couple of years (at least).

I will reserve judgment for a little bit (first episodes are first episodes), but right now I am prepared to say precisely the opposite.

Being the wierd guy that I am, I tracked down Mainichi Kaasan and found it entertaining even without subtitles.

The source material being a 4 panels comic strip, the episode has a number of short skits mixed with longer ones that I assume are original to the show. I doubt there will be some sort of storyline or evolution, so I am not sure they can avoid being repetitive pretty fast. Until then, these are amusing and sometimes touching slices of life.

Eden of the East was pretty good. Probably my favorite of the first eps I've watched this season. There is a decent amount of mystery surrounding the story, but the characters are likable enough. It will be interesting to see exactly where the story goes, although some of the points seem to be playing into a moderately cliche 'powerful dude with no memories' kind of thing. Only 11 episodes, so not much time to invest anyways.

Character design is great and production value impressive (neat opening credits and amazing closing credits also), but I am a little worried about the plot...

Episode 2 of Mazinger Z is the beginning of the story, by the way.

I've never heard of something like this before, but the answer is usually downloading Combined Community Codec Pack (google it). I use zoom player, which comes packed in with that I think. VLC is also a good option. If it is an avi then the file could just be corrupted, if it an mkv then it is probably a codec issue.

Or you could take this as a sign of god that you shouldn't waste your time with boring crap like Code Geass.

I had issues with VLC and subtitle formatting, even using the CCC pack. Once I started using windows media player subtitle formatting was much better.

Ya, I used to have issues with VLC when using mkvs so I switched to zoom player.

No, it's the worst option. As said earlier, download CCCP and use included MPClassic or Zoom included with it.

VLC used to be good, half a dozen years ago or so. Use anything but it now, though.

K-lite codec pack comes with most of what CCCP comes with and also Media player classic Home Cinema edition which allows you to use filters (that it also comes with) that allow direct show acceleration.

This comes in handy when watching full 1080p movies that require a lot of processing. like in planet earth 1080p where there like a million birds on the screen movie. It killed my dual core system (it only used one core with the standard ffdshow filters) until i had that shit working like it was supposed to.

For anime though, probably anything would work.
