| Stargate: Universe Quoting from the press release: Quote:
"The series will employ a new cast of characters, with the network seeking a known performer for one lead role and fresh faces to play the rest of the ship’s crew. Appearances by former cast members from “SG-1” and “Atlantis” are very possible." Now how the hell are you supposed to get former cast members as guest cast on a ship with no way back to earth? How long do we think it will be before they jury-rig some way to make occasional trips? Realistically the whole thing looks like Stargate : Voyager, but I'll give it a shot and see what it ends up being like. Apparently Sci-Fi is still selecting the "companion" show to go along with Universe with Caprica as one of the options. Would make sense given that this new Stargate is much more of a space opera and Caprica would be more cerebral and grounded.

+49 Internets | While the premise allows them to play with some concepts like "Zomg, what would they do if the Airforce or IOA wasn't there 24/7 to tell them what to do", it also severely limits their ability to tie into the old show. I mean, how could you do a cameo? Gilligan's Island style? "Oh shit, somehow this planet has Rodney and Carter on it! They're trying to rescue us. Oops, they got to go back to Earth and we failed to do so!". Much like Voyager, I'm sure they'll run across familiar stuff, but with a twist or something. A system lord that somehow ended up out there, some pre-genetic modification Asgard, some replicators that are good guys, etc. And maybe after a season or so they'll let them dial back to Earth every now and again to keep the fans happy

| As long as the writers take their time and plot out storylines a few seasons in advance so they aren't slapping together stand alone filler episodes to complete 20 episodes, I'll be happy.

| They really seem to keep emphasizing "young crew". Dawsons Creek in Space... pilot - "oh Rob, I wanna save myself until I get married." "But we're in space Jennifer, we may never get married. Lets explore the final frontier, our bodies!" |

+1 Internets | Dear Lord I hope you're wrong about that. I'll still watch it with the Voyager style premise, but the Dawsons Creekification of Stargate would probably be enough for me to forget about watching the new series and just sticking with SG-1 & SGA. |

| Stargate needs to take a lesson from Dr Who in the "standalone filler episode" arena. Every season so far Dr Who has invoked a couple of standalones and even now has a tradition of one 'doctorless' episode a season and they work quite well. Love and Monsters, although against some people's tastes, was a very memorable little romp and Blink...well hellfire Blink won the Hugo!

| I think it came from an SG writer at one of the con in the last year, SciFi channel wants almost every show to be mostly 1-shots as long stories are bad for ratings in their view. |

| This is Stargate, what have they done in the past to give any indication they'd plan stuff out ahead of time? Most likely, they'll have 60% filler, a horribly cliché stock villain (it turns out that there are actually Replicators all around the universe!), planets that look like Canada and guest stars (maybe a holographic copy of Daniel/Rodney/Sam/whoever) from the old shows.
