I liked the direction they took with Baal, but they could have let him win more often. I did start to get a scooby-doo-esque "I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for these nosy kids" vibe near the end.

I disagree. It's the villains that were nothing more than vague, generic, hovering threats that sucked, i.e the Wraith.

The villains that had personality, motives, and flaws were the interesting ones; Gou'Auld and Genai, for example. It's no coincidence that the Wraith started becoming interesting ONLY when they introduced the character of Todd, who added a bit of humanity to the Wraith.

Inspired by people on this board whining about all the episodes looking like Canada I thought of an idea to submit to the Stargate people for a show. I'd like to hear what you guys think.

The team goes through the Stargate(or do they get ported down by the ship in Universe?) and come out to some really nasty looking plants. Upon closer inspection the plants start attacking the visitors and one member is seriously bitten. After rushing away from the Stargate to find local help they come across a village of sub-humans. The new species of humans are completely green and after asking some questions and watching the locals it comes to find out the sub-humans gain their energy/food through photosynthesis. The villagers help the wounded team member recover and in return ask a favor of the strange visitors.

They tell a story of thousands of years of their people battling the carnivorous plants and they are losing the battle, soon their civilization will be overrun and millions on the planet will die. They ask the travelers to use their strange technology to annihilate the threat and save their people.

The team agrees to help and returns to the ship and does an orbital blasting of over 80% of the planet where there will be no civilian casualties.

Upon returning to the planet they discover the newly freed people are now dying in mass amounts and no one knows why. The smart team member plays around with the little sensor thing and discovers that oxygen levels in the atmosphere are increasing considerably and that the green people are suffocating to death from a lack of carbon dioxide.

The team educates the remaining green people that the man eater plants and the green people need to co-exist on the planet to create a balance of air supply for both.

After returning to the ship the Captain can make a comment about how people on Earth could learn a lesson from this as we continuously chop down our forests we are slowing suffocating ourselves.

Interview with Robert Carlyle

Sounds like the writers are trying to go with a BSG theme?

But the more I hear about the more interesting it sounds.

So will I need to have watch the others series to have a clue when watching this one? I want to give this a chance, but if I have to watch the previous series I won't bother.

I don't think you'll have to watch it. Some knowledge of stargate should be good enough.

Most of the time, new series need to be broad enough to bring in a new audience, not just recycle from previous shows.

This teaser sorta gives me some hope that this won't be bad. I will pray tonight.

Watch SG-1 at least. Not for the sake of this new series, but because it's one of the best television series out there.

SG-1 is definitely worth watching. There are some bad episodes, same as any series...but then you have gems like this:

These promos seem to portray a show that desperately wants to be edgy like Battlestar Galactica...but its still Stargate so we know in the end it'll end up trying to be fun at the same time and the resulting show will probably be very uneven with much drama and pathos one week and the next week will have characters joking around while the writing staff try to all figure out what exact tone they want.

Im really getting a bad vibe from all of this.
