| I love me some Stargate as well, but I don't see how this will even tie in with the other two series besides the name, and well... stargates. SG-1 was great with Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks, and Atlantis picked up nicely when they figured out the Shepperd and McKay duo. But at least with Atlantis you could always pop Jack, Daniel, Carter, Teal'c, Hammond, Landry, etc... With this new series, they won't have any contact with the SGC or Atlantis. They wont see any of the previous aliens (but we all know there'll be another race of Replicators, another clan of Asgard, and heck lets throw in some Wraith with Gu'aulds inside them) I'll still watch, cause I get a boner for anything Sci-fi/Fantasy, but I'll be curious to see if they bring any other the old casts back for this show. |

| I'm sure there will be cameos. I read somewhere that the Ancient mind-swap device will be used in at least one episode. Quite lame and it's a good indication that the series won't be written any better than late SG-1/Atlantis. My prediction is it'll wind up like Star Trek Enterprise -- run for a few seasons with abysmal ratings, canceled, then the franchise hanging in limbo. |

SG:U's basic premise doesn't exactly fill me full of confidence that it will be a great show though. Sounds like it'll be a one mature adult character managing a bunch of 20somethings type deal. Fuck that. It would have to get pretty bad for me to abandon the franchise though. Enterprise had decent ratings, actually. Not great but not terrible. No worse than Voyager. UPN just wanted to take the network in a "different direction." | |

+166 Internets | Babylon 5 tried this too with that really fucking terrible spinoff. I'll probably end up watching because of the absolute derth of sci-fi shows right now but yeah, waaaaaaaaaaay too many parallel's to other ill-fated sci-fi spinoffs. |

+3 Internets | SGU second episode is titled Earth Seems to be the same writers as SG1 and SGA, I was kind of hoping they would bring in some new blood to liven the franchise up a bit but I enjoyed SG1 and SGA so I'll probably enjoy Universe as well. |

| They are capable of some good stuff as evidenced by the (very) occasional great episode in SGA and the recent Stargate Continuum was flipping awesome. I really would like the new series to recapture the feeling of first few seasons of SG1 -- of exploration and being a close-knit team. I just don't know how this SGU is going to work, though. It immediately brings to mind a pet peeve of mine I had with Voyager: they're traveling back home presumably in a somewhat STRAIGHT LINE yet somehow manage to keep running into the same bad guys over and over. ![]() |

+3 Internets | This seems like a good sign, producers are bringing in a fresh set of eyes instead of basically having the same staff for the past 12 years. Author John Scalzi tapped as Universe consultant |
