Favorite/Best Character from HBO's OZ

Yeah I know it's old now, much older than the Sopranos and I still haven't finished the series yet, starting season 5 now. Some Spoilers Included:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I'm pretty sure I know my favorite character though... Chris Keller.

Keller is extraordinarily fucked up, bisexual, murderer, fucks up his best friend/lover etc etc etc...

The things I like about Keller though are the way he stands out from everyone else in OZ. Keller is more or less on his own program and does only what serves his needs or what he feels like doing good or bad. Keller has no addictions, except for maybe sex but even that he controls in OZ. Just the look Keller walks around with like he isn't afraid of shit and that motherfucker is crazy enough he actually isn't. He has his decent side when he partners back up with Beecher and earns his trust back. As fucked up as it is his relationship with Beecher is twisted but I admire them in how they support each other against everyone else in OZ, especially Shilinger. I don't care for the homosexuality but it's prison and it is what it is... It's about like watching Brokeback Mountain in a way, except much more twisted... If you can get passed the homosexuality you can see the bond between them transcend sex and see 2 people standing up together in a shithole more fucked up than most of us can imagine. The more I watch of OZ the more fucked up and just plain evil that place appears to me.

I sort of admire Shilinger because he hates drugs so much and because he genuinely wanted to get out of prison only to help his fucked up sons. I don't like the racism but I think for a lot of whites in prison it's either ally with the Ariens or become a prag or die...

Kareem Saied has his good and bad moments also. I hated how bullshit righteous he acted when he came to OZ. He blew up a building as an act of terrorism. Saied does do a lot for any inmate even across racial lines and he doesn't act like such a pompous, holier than thou over the system and the hacks later on.

I like Beecher a lot also, especially when he dumps the prag bullshit and goes a little crazy. More fucked up shit happens to Beecher than any inmate in OZ but he really seems to be developing into a better person through seasons 3 and 4. Beecher fights addiction which I don't hold against him too much but he is still a bit on the prag side.

I still like Keller the best though because it seems no one can hold their own solo the way Keller does. Keller is like the true rogue of OZ. He can run solo and survive on his own wits or team up with my version of the "good guys" and rock the house.

Adebise could have really been a great, great player in OZ instead of just a good player had the old African man lived longer. He was really on the right track there for a bit and he always made me laugh the way he taunted Chibetta jr, not to mention how formidable he is as a fighter.

Mcmanus concerns himself with being too perfect, over analyzing everything for its weight on his morality chart. In a lot of ways he just doesn't get shit done that needs to be done. I do admire the way he sincerely wants to help the inmates. I just wish he had the balls to boot the inmates that don't wanna try to help themselves and keep the ones that do.

Warden Glyn makes a great warden imo though. He sticks to the law in almost every situation. He doesn't act in some situations where maybe he should but in a way I think that gives him credibility with the majority of the inmates because he isn't trying to fuck them every chance he gets or staying all up in their business too much.

There's plenty of other charaters like Oreilly worth mentioning but those are the ones that stand out the most to me, good or bad.

You're going to hate the ending. It's really sad.

But, it's totally deserving.

Adebisi. I lost interest in the show after that.

I haven't heard much about this show. Anyone recommend it? What's it similar to?

This show fucking rocked. I know it is prison and all, so I could do without the constant penis flashing, but still...

So many great "Oh shit!" moments. Those are what really kept me tuned in every week/season.

Lots of great violence too. My vote also goes for Adibisi.

Heh ya, the ending of OZ kinda takes a shit on you.

Beecher is sort of the "everyman" character in the show, so it makes sense that alot of people gravitate towards him. He wasn't really a criminal in the normal sense...he fucked up bad and they made an example of him. I don't remember the season, but there's an episode where Beecher goes for parole and pretty much sums up all the fucked up shit that's happened.

Adebisi no doubt!

If you haven't yet, check out The Wire. The guy who plays Kenny Wangler turned in a hell of a performance as Bodie in The Wire.

He goes to jail for drinking and driving, and in the end, he hits a kid and kills her accidentally. He gets jailtime for about 20 or so years.

I don't want to spoil anything, but yeah, people tend to gravitate him as everyone else in there is REALLY fucked up. Keller is NO exception.

Definately Adebesi.

Lets just say I was pissed during the halfway point of Season 4 of Oz, and years later, after having seen him pop up on Lost, I ended up getting pissed off again (Lost watchers should know why).

That guy just rocks.

It's been a long while since I last watched the show, dont really recall all the characters... but like others have said, Adebisi and Beecher.

Adebisi was just badass and Beecher was the "normal" guy you rooted for in the beginning. I dont remember their names, but I also liked that guy with the scar who gouged out the eyes of a guard and the Irish guy with the retarded brother.

If anyone noticed, most if not all of the characters, have played pivotal roles in Law and Order.

Yeah, saw a random episode come on late night on hbo months back. Was weird as fuck seeing the psychiatrist as a crazy nazi again. Or the cop from svu as a insane gay guy among others.

For some reason, I have seen every episode except for the last few, I really need to just bite the bullet and buy the last season.

Oz people make reoccuring roles in the strangest places.

I've seen alot of them on various episodes of the numerous CSI's.

And damn, everytime I see that cereal commercial with Andrew Schillinger in it, I crack up.
