Phoenix to land on Mars today

Landing could be confirmed at 7:53pm EST. NASA is going to cover the landing on NASA TV: NASA - NASA TV (go to other viewing options to avoid real player)

I don't suppose they have a camera on the thing and who knows how boring/fun it'll be, but might be worth keeping open in the background. Coverage starts at 6pm EST.

It's not live on CNN, they're walking through the landing now. ETA to landing 40mins.

Seems like a pretty damn risky landing. Spirit and Rover basically parachuted down and used huge ballons surrounding the vehicles to cushion the landing. This mission is relying on some pretty advanced radar guided rocket decelleration after the initial atmospheric entry.

My bet is this will become Beagle 3.0

From what I read it's too big to use the cushion and it doesn't have wheels... I guess it's important for it to land with the right side down

From what they're showing, it looks like some toy digger heh.

There was audio of the guy calling all the stuff out (radar ok, 100 meters, etc...)
