Just saw episode 8 and am wondering what is going on a bit now...

Animation was still good at least not nearly as bad as I was expecting, but the scene with that military officer guy and the person that showed up during Rankas' song are confusing me a bit..

so uhh...is macross zero part of this universe? they showed what I thought looked like the 'birdman' thing from Macross Zero.

That was an actual flashback to Macross Zero. Yes, Zero is part of the timeline and happens before the original Macross (which has quite a bit of a different story from the butchery that is Robotech).

From the wiki: On the Macross timeline, the story is set on the year 2059, 47 years after the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross & 13 years after Macross 7.

Macross Zero is set one year before the original Macross starts - so it's set in 2008. Macross was from 2009-2012. Do You Remember Love is set in 2031 and Macross Plus is set in 2040.

That mystery guy is named Brera and pretty much the only thing we know for sure about him is that he pilots a VF-27. Ranka's song is really her only memory of the time before the Vajra attack on the research fleet 11 years ago that she was on board; so the implication with the song is that Brera was also a survivor from the research fleet. Leon obviously has some connection to Brera and the VF-27, he also knows more about the Vajra than he's letting on. So it is possible Leon and Brera belong to a third faction which is possibly connected to the Vajra or possibly an organization similar to the SMS.

I honestly think the VF-27 is from Macross Galaxy due to the advanced technology on them.

I need to watch DYRL again, it's been a long time since i last saw it and I was just a kid then. It was the US cut too.

I've only a couple of Macross 7 eps too, maybe i should go back and watch the whole thing.

Kind of funny how episode 9 subtly indicates the origin of that mystery VF-27. Something so subtle I wouldn't have noticed it unless someone pointed it out to me... Looking at the insignias on the VF-27, it belongs to the New UN Spacy and originated from Macross Galaxy which certainly raises more questions than answers.

Seeing the Macross Frontier retelling of Zero next episode interests me for some reason. As I understand it, that information was just recently declassified; so Zero was essentially the Macross version of Roswell which I find kind of humorous.

origins as in Macross Galaxy or origins as in connection to Varja?

i take it Galaxy captured some and did some experiments/implemented into their VFs (which eventually lead to their destruction).

I hope they don't fux up the Macross Zero story too much.

Galaxy since it would seem to me there's another faction within NUNS doing their own thing , even going as far as attacking friendlies like the SMS to get what they want. I'm sure there's a Vajra connection as well; wouldn't surprise me if the VF-27 incorporates Vajra technology which provoked the attack on Galaxy in the first place. Also would surprise me if that mystery pilot Brera is Ranka's biological older brother.

Nipponsei is going to release it in the next day or so if you want something that you know will work. The [LonE] release appears to be the highest quality but not in mp3 but .flac format. Kind of disappointing that most of the Sheryl songs have the audiences cheering in the background.
