| 1.99 for an hour long episode of something seems reasonable. 4.99 is ridiculous. Really, fuck 49.99 seasons of television shows. I don't need all that pretty packaging and bullshit. Just give me the show without commercials and pass the savings on. Greedy fucks.

No shit. 50 bucks for a season of shows with crappy encoding and tiny resolutions? You can buy a DVD of a season of shows for half that.

+29 Internets | No, that's for the unlimited account. It's actually pretty pricey due to the longer retention. Newshosting is $15/month for unlimited downloading, but you're limited to 8 simultaneous connections. You get about 2.5mbit per connection, so you should max out a 20mbit line with it. |

| Yeah well I pay 12.5$ cos i share it and giganews retention is insane - its like having a torrent that got posted 150+ days ago with 200 seeders still. I've tried it at a uni computer cluster and was downloading around 3.3megabytes/sec with only 4 connections. Plus Giganews gives you a free software license for Newsleecher - the best newsgroup software without a doubt (dunno if they still do though) Last edited by K`Lag : 09-01-2007 at 05:08 PM. |

+23 Internets | Soriak/K'Lag, Do you know whether or not those two usenet services offer more groups, longer lasting posts, etc than the other? I'm looking to get a newsgroup service, but not sure which to go with. |

+4 Internets | I've used Giganews for a couple of years now, the retention has always been huge compared to other services and just keeps getting longer. Its pricier than most other usenet providers but damn, if you suddenly get the urge to checkout "Random_FilmOrTVEpisode" your chances of finding it are huge. For example, someone recommended Eureka to me. I check on newzbin and find someone had posted the early season 1 episodes 60 days or so ago, 20 minutes later I'm watching episode 1 and loving it. If you are going to start using usenet, check out Newzbin - Usenet Search for pennies a week you can get a file which will be autoloaded into newsbin or newsleecher and get all the posts that make up what you are looking for. Saves downloading 8zillion headers to find what you are looking for. Shilling over, although I pay them, they dont pay me, doh!

The $15 Newshosting account is 45 days, the $20 account 70 days. Though I can download 70-80 day old files on my $15 account just fine... Giganews is an insane 200 days. They also currently have a "Diamond" offer for $20, which is quite attractive. If I would download more than just recently released things, I'd go for that actually. edit: nm on the diamond offer - it goes to $30 after the first month. Don't think SSL encryption is needed just yet as ISPs themselves don't seem to care what you DL. Last edited by Soriak : 09-02-2007 at 05:00 AM. | |

| BUBBLES THE MONKEY!!! | I will say this, with all the TV shows I watch/collect now, my weekly downloads are ballooning at quite a fast rate. It's up to about 8 or 9 with 3 on Sunday alone. I wouldn't have any gripe about paying if the encode was good, but when I can get a 250 meg HDTV encode of a House episode, why should I pay for something that is ridiculously inferior in quality? |

| I have a serious question. WTF is it with germans and dubbing their porn? I really can't understand that. Granted it's all old stuff but still did anyone really think it made it better? |
