TV Shows that don't hold up

I felt that the threads in the movie sections were pretty awesome conversation pieces (minus some of the hate, anyways) so wanted to make a thread dealing with TV shows. Especially those that we lost sleep over as a kid but now get embarassed watching.

Anyways, I've got a handful right off the top of my head:

Original Battlestar Galactica
Tales of the Gold Monkey
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
Mork and Mindy
CHiPs

Each of those shows was like a god send to me when I was a kid. I remember whining because I had to go to bed at the same time as my younger sister so had to miss an episode of Battlestar Galactica. I used to quote Mork all the time to the point of driving my mother to forbid me to do it anymore. And don't ask me how many times I went "beedee beedee beedee". I also thought Hawk was the coolest character ever. My step dad was a deputy sheriff then marshall, so that led to some serious CHiPs fandom.

I can't watch a single episode of any of those without whincing.

What were your favorites?

Having just re-watched it on DVD (or rather endured re-watching it), I'd have to say 'V'.

I looked forward to that show every week when I was a kid. OMFG is it horrible.

SeaQuest, but I still think it's a certain type of awesome.

V! Can't believe I forgot about that one. I loved that show. I wonder if I could handle more than 5 minutes of it now...

I LOVED V as a kid. Personally, V and V The Final battle are still great to me, the two miniseries. I have them both on DVD and I think "horrible" is a huge overstatement. The actual television show series (Not the miniseries) are not good though. Yea the special effects in V are nothing compared to today's special effects but I still love the story, the characters, and those guns. And come one the special effects are not that bad. The Michael Donovan character is fantastic.

I would love to see V remade into a movie or television series with the current special effects. Now that would be sweet.

Been rumors ongoing for several years now that Kenneth Johnson (also of Alien Nation fame) has been wanting to redo it. I guess he settled for something a tad different: "V: The Second Generation" (2008) (mini)

V has wave caps of brilliance (the Michael Ironside character) in a vast sea of really, really bad acting. Of course in the series around episode 8, he says goodbye and is gone from the cast.

I will have to go back and watch the miniseries and movie. I only have the DVD of the series, but I'm willing to believe it could be watchable still.

The worst part is the tactics by the aliens almost always involved some level of Rube-Goldberg mechanic that made absolutely no sense. If the aliens were as dumb as their commanders, there'd have been no invasion :P

Sure much of the acting was bad, but it was a really awesome story and approached the idea from several different angles. I think it still holds up =) (except for the ending! jesus h christ that was one of the worst ways to end a great story - mystic mumbo jumbo ftl)

I think it's pretty obvious that any show dealing with space or "the distant future" or some nonsense doesn't hold up. Technology gets better and shit just becomes cheesy in comparison. Hell, a better question would be to name a sci-fi/fantasy show (early 90's or earlier) that DOES hold up.

And to contribute to the thread: Alf.

X-Files for sure. Pretty much any sketch comedy show, even Kids In The Hall (may god forgive me).

I'm going to catch a boatload of shit for saying this, but some of the Star Trek:TNG episodes are just downright awful. I've been watching reruns on TNT or TBS or whatever, and they aren't at all as good as I remembered them.

Don't get me wrong; I still love the show to death, and I still think that 99% of the episodes have held up admirably over the decades. But some of the first- and second-season eps are kind of embarrassing in today's light.

Kids in the Hall seems to hold up exceptionally well for me, but definitely seconding the X-Files with the possible exception of maybe a half dozen stand alone episodes.
