Vorph if you do indeed want to watch hellsing, watch the OVAS. It is BY far superior to the TV show that doesn't even follow the manga storyline halfway through.

Gungrave = total $. Watch it in English, as it has some of the best english dubbed voices in any anime i've seen.

Berserk used to be one of my favorites, but not having a true ending other than making me read Manga gives it MAJOR negative points on my scale. Same goes for Trinity Blood. Don't start the fucking anime if you can't finish making it.

You'll find that easily that a 65% of all animes from a manga adaptation do not reflect the manga or start to diverge at some point.

Most companies simply can't be like One Piece and do a 300 episode+ (and not slowing down at anytime) monster and still be accurate of the manga.

I liked Ghost in the Shell SAC and SAC Second gig. It is the Law and Order of Anime in that the plot and dialog is just as good as the anime. It's a pretty serious anime. Not much funny stuff going on.

The lack of a real ending to the series always pissed me off too, but hot damn was it good.

Forgot about Trinity Blood. I have that on my PC somewhere as well. Again, besides the lack of ending, really awesome series.

Been having trouble finding a fan-sub for "Tengann Toppa Gurren Lagnna" the only ones I found were in French. Can anyone post a link of a torrent with this anime?

Trinity Blood is worth watching up till the end of the arc which takes place in the Vampires Territory... after that it's downhill. Too bad the creator had to die... wish it could have truely ended.

Is it me or I saw no mention of Paranoia Agent in this thread? It's uneven for sure, but that's a better blend of wtf than many of the wtf anime.

That said, for several of the propositions made, I would rather recommand the original material rather than the anime adaptation. Most of the greatness of something like She, The Ultimate Weapon is lost in an anime, since it's all about exploration of the comic art possibilities. The same can be said about something like Great Teacher Onizuka or, for pacing reasons, Monster. I guess watching them in anime is better than missing them completely though.

How did Monster end up being? I watched the first 10 and really enjoyed it, though it was slow, but for some reason never watched it after I backed it up to DVD.

I never watched the GTO anime, but I was given the first 18 or so Manga and I don't typically like that type of anime but that shit is hilarious

The Berserk manga is still in production, the newest chapter came out last Thursday. There's only three main story lines left to go so the manga should be done in another fifteen years.

Funny that you mention it, because there are several mangas that have been going on for over 15 years and still continuing.
Perfect example is

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

92 volumes and still continuing. I think I have most of the volumes. Thats about 20 years on a single series right there

Watch Mushishi. There was never a day when Mushishi came out, I couldn't watch it. After every episode, I was never left feeling hungry or full.
QFT! The only reason I didn't mention it is I didn't think it really fell into the theme of the thread. Mushishi is one of the animes that I was most excited about month to month. (other than Kemonozume)
