Where can I get Speed Grapher? First time I've heard of it in this thread. Synopsis didn't particularly grab me, but I can't ignore this many recommendations

I got it from Demonoid since they had the Shinsen Subs release all in one pack.

Demonoid.com - [S-S]Speed Grapher (assuming you have an account)

Thanks. I had completely forgotten about demonoid after one of the shut downs they had.

Well Vorph mentioned specifics about what he liked and what he didn't like and that's pretty much why I stayed away from most the high-school anime, but yeah Saikano is definitely up there. I was really impressed that GONZO stuck with that manga ending too.

That's why I think he'd like Texhnolyze actually: same pace and weight as Ergo Proxy but a lot more gritty and dystopian. It starts up real slow but hits like a truck when it gets rolling. I'd have to say I actually liked it more than Ergo Proxy.

Yea, I think Texhnolyze will be the next one I get once I finish up Elfen Lied (checking out one episode somehow turned into watching the entire series tonight) and Speed Grapher.

I made it through about 15 episodes of Texhnolyze before I died of boredom. I even had to turn on english dubbing (which i never do) in order to multi-task while watching it. Some episodes are interested for sure, but the show is about 99% visual. Though I should go back and finish it

I think it's really one of the more powerful endings anyone has ever done in an anime.

im sure someone else have named it already but ill suggest it anyway

watch Wolf's Rain. one of the best anime i have seen

i dont know it is, probably its atmophere, but it has moments of pure emotions (both positive and negative)

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
and as every good anime, it has a great "wtf?" ending

EDIT - and for some good bloody action, watch Claymore

Saikano is pretty painful. It would be pretty hard to imagine such despair, depression and helplessness to the point of doing nothing but supporting the one you love, because thats all you can do.

Fuck that anime.

Gonzo didn't stick with the manga ending. Well, the ending was similar, however much disjoined between the anime and manga. (But it follows close and point all the way up to the end)

Some other serious/action anime you might want to check out are black blood brothers, black lagoon, and now and then, here and there. This is a really old anime, so it may be hard to get, but violinist of hamlin has to be one of my favorites. shitty animation, but the story is pretty amazing.

I'm a huge fan of Berserk and highly recommend it.

Oh it gets slow and way too experimental at times, but if you enjoyed Ergo Proxy it's pretty much up there. It's a great show with solid visuals and writing but I know what you mean. 15 eps is pretty much into the meat of the series and if you still can't get into it by then I doubt it would get more satisfying for you from there. Not a lot of shows out there like Texhnolyze, though; and we're already seeing a lot of its influence on newer shows (like Ergo Proxy).

Not a lot of folks are into mature/serious anime actually, a bit of a disappointment after the awesomeness of the 90's (what Roger Ebert called the second golden age of Japanese Cinema!). But at least we're seeing a lot of solid satires and comedies that aren't aimed at the typical highschool shounen/shoujo crowd. FLCL has been mentioned... but if you like oddball shit like FLCL then you really owe it to yourself to catch Cromartie. But get the fansub.. that ADV version is censored to fuck and there's none of the batshit dialog that makes the manga hysterical. And stay away from the live action version.. far away.

Honestly, above all, Mushishi hasn't gotten a single word of praise yet.

Definitely on my top 5 anime list, Mushishi encompasses all seriousness, calm, tranquility that makes you feel like as if you are almost apart of that world. There isn't a lot of action in the anime, but the overall ambiance, mood, and story of the anime is enough to outweigh the entertainment of violent animes. And I love my violent animes.

Watch Mushishi. There was never a day when Mushishi came out, I couldn't watch it. After every episode, I was never left feeling hungry or full.
