+1 Internets | 42" LCD Tvs In the next couple of months I will be purchasing a new TV, and just from eye shopping it looks like a 42" LCD will work great. Is 1080i or (p) worth it? Are the off brands worth a look? Or should I keep to Sony, LG, Samsung, etc? What are the main things as far as specs that I should I look for? I want to try and keep the price under $1500. I am not a crazy gamer, but would like to purchase an Xbox360, same with watching movies. Thanks for the help. Last edited by Pagan : 07-28-2007 at 04:19 PM. |

| 1080p would be worth it at that size of television. The things to look for in a good LCD are: Contrast ratio- (usually shown as something 1000:1) The higher the first number the better. Brightness - usually shown somethin like 550 ms, which is around the standard for most good LCDs. Responce time- this is important for gaming and sports/action movies, usullay 8ms or lower is what you should look for. Also, what connections it has in the back can also be big. You definitely need one or more HDMI connection (this is standard on most current LCDs) As far as brands, you should probably go to a store and check side by side comparisons and check specification charts. I have a 32" Samsung LCD and it is wonderful, though it and Sony are the more expensive brands. I think the more well known brands would be worth it for a big LCD. (Though price is a consideration) |

| I do not understand peoples obsessions with DLP and other projection TV's. Their viewing angle is asstastic. I game on this TV. SonyStyle.com | 46" BRAVIAŽ XBRŽ series LCD Flat Panel HDTV

+17 Internets | Because large LCDs look like shit (to me anyways) unless you spend a fuckton of money on the really high end ones (like that really nice Sony). Plus I have absolutely no problem with the viewing angles. |

| It's not LCD but I love my 42" Hitachi Ultravision Plasma. I got the one with the breakout box that has every fricken connector on the planet which is icing.

| I do not understand people's gripe about DLP's viewing angle. I have a 56" samsung and the thing is fanfuckingtastic. I mean if you are sitting like right beside it then yeah it blows but here's an idea for you: sit in front of the fucking thing. |

+17 Internets | Yeah, that confuses me too. Exactly where the hell are you viewing your TV from? Pretty sure the only way I've ever had one setup for normal viewing is so I'm looking right at it. |

| I don't just use it for games. Friends and I watch movies, etc on it when they are over so some of them are at odd angles which don't showup well on projection TV's.

| I ended up going LCD due to rainbows, but my mitsubishi 65" DLP was viewable from damn near every angle except from within 3 feet from the front of the set. One couch was in front of the TV 13 feet away from the screem. Another was 8 feet away on the side wall, even the closest seat to the set, at around 6 ft, was clearly visable. Only when I walked up to the tv to change dvds or some such would the viewing angle begin to fall off. |
