+13 Internets | True Blood TV.com: Anna Paquin finds 'True' calling for HBO This looks pretty interesting, and HBO series almost always deliver so I'll be checking it out when it starts. Anyone read the books its based on and care to comment? |

| I've read all of Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire books, and they're really good if you like that kind of thing. She's similar to Laurell K. Hamilton, except there's actual plot going on instead of just sex. As the genre goes, I'd put her second behind Kim Harrison. The basic premise is that vampires have just announced their existence to the world after a Japanese company invents synthetic blood that they can live off of indefinitely. There are other supernatural beings too, like werewolves, demons, fairies, witches, etc. but they have chosen to remain secret still. The main character is a waitress in a bar in rural Louisiana who happens to be a telepath. She's kind of weird because she can't control it completely, and the rest of the town thinks she's just crazy or a bit 'touched' in the head. One night a vampire stops into the bar, and everything starts to snowball from there. There's a serial killer in town and since she's befriended the vampire she decides to prove it's not him doing the killing. Not sure how I feel about Anna Paquin as Sookie, I guess she was an obvious choice for the casting department, but I can't say I ever really liked her as Rogue. |

+7 Internets | She was good in 25th Hour and Buffalo Soldiers. I love vampire movies so if this takes off I'll make sure to tune in. And as mentioned, HBO hasn't let me down yet. |

+12 Internets | Is it just me or is HBO picking up some really off the wall properties lately? First we hear about Preacher, then Song of Ice and Fire, and now a vampire series? Didn't they see Kindred? I'm not really complaining, per se. Hell, I'm excited about all three potential shows. It just seems very strange that HBO keeps picking these exotic properties when things like Carnivale get axed, and all of their elaborate set dramas (Deadwood, Rome) end up canceled when they go way over budget. They make the most money and garner the most press from modern dramas like Sopranos and The Wire, which are easy for the masses to relate to (and luckily happen to be great shows). I'm impressed that they keep going for the long shot ideas, but it just baffles me after all this time. - Heylel |

+13 Internets | Just watched the pilot, I enjoyed it a lot. Pretty solid cast with the exception of the annoying black chick (her character tries SOOO hard not to be a stereotype that she IS a stereotype). Anna Paquin looks tasty in her work uniform; so that was a plus. Nice to see some familiar favorites from other HBO shows like William Sanderson (Farnum from Deadwood), and Chris Bauer (Frank Sobotka from The Wire season 2), I look forward to seeing the next couple of episodes. |

| Watched the pilot and it didn't interest me too much, but I do see some good potential. I'll wait to see full production before passing judgment. Anna Paquin still can't act for shit but who cares when she looks like that.

Comic book, fantasy, and vampire stuff all of which has been doing really well lately in film or lit (chic werewolf books etc are really popular currently). Its all "HBO style" for the genres but those genres are all doing well lately so I dont think its too surprising.

+4 Internets | I got a copy of this but it cut out at the 56 minute mark just as Spoiler Alert, click show to read: How much is there missing? I'm not sure yet if i feel she is the right actress for the role, I couldnt explain perfectly why but she didnt come across as someone to give a monkeys about. Then again I'd say the same for most of the support cast as well The premise is a good one, the show opening was excellent but it never really seemed to find a groove after that and certainly didnt have the level of dialogue I've come to expect from HBO shows. I watched it right before I saw Middleman which in the same time onscreen made a much more effective opener with you almost immediately enjoying the characterisation. Anyways, I'll give it another try when it's shown properly so we can see what was in scene 29 and 31 at least ![]()
