How much is there missing?

I'm not sure yet if i feel she is the right actress for the role, I couldnt explain perfectly why but she didnt come across as someone to give a monkeys about. Then again I'd say the same for most of the support cast as well The premise is a good one, the show opening was excellent but it never really seemed to find a groove after that and certainly didnt have the level of dialogue I've come to expect from HBO shows.

I watched it right before I saw Middleman which in the same time onscreen made a much more effective opener with you almost immediately enjoying the characterisation.

Anyways, I'll give it another try when it's shown properly so we can see what was in scene 29 and 31 at least
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

She goes outside, but the other vamp doesn't show. Instead she gets jumped by that guy and girl she rescued the vamp from. Ends with her on the ground being beaten up.

Which is one of my peeves with the show, how does someone who can read minds get jumped? Hopefully they do a better job at establishing the logic behind her ability, rather then having it work or not work depending what they need.

The other gripe is the use of a set for the outside. Can sort of understand it given its a vamp show, so it's mostly at night, but the long and wide shots make it a bit too obvious that its fake. Should stick to close up intermixed with some outdoor stock footage.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't bad acting, worse southern accents, cheap-looking sets, ill-conceived changes to major characters, and new plot holes created for the pilot that didn't exist in the novel. At first I thought my feelings about the pilot were the usual "the book is always better" complaints, but I think it goes far beyond that.

On the bright side, the 8th book came out last month and it was pretty good.

Jesus this is the worst piece of trash I've seen in a while. All the acting was overdone by actors that looked like they belonged in cinemax porn

Yeah, this sucked pretty bad.

Even though I had the version that was missing scenes etc I didn't think those scenes were going to save it

one thing i hate that they do is the power of the vampire. same for "Moonlight" and "Blood Ties".

two drug addict hicks should not be able to take down a vampire. i don't give a shit if they have a silver chain. bringing the vampire down to a level that's barely more powerful than a common street thug is too much.

Were they just random hicks? I figured they were vampire hunters.

Yeah, in the book they were local trailer trash who apparently liked to prey on vampires to drain their blood, which is sold as a drug to other humans. It was a weak start to an otherwise good book, and I definitely remember rolling my eyes at Bill needing rescuing right off the bat. The problem was that they would have needed to be on vampire blood to get the jump on Bill even with the silver chain, but if they were then Sookie wouldn't have been able to do anything to help. On the bright side, his retaliation after recovering from the silver was kind of amusing so it wasn't all bad.

I had high hopes for this series, seeing the executive producer behind Six Feet Under take on a vampire theme, both being favorites of mine. But the leaked pilot did not impress. Neither the acting, setting or plot clicked, so I guess it's back to waiting for a vampire series that can reach the levels that The Masquerade did in its time.

Despite the bad press the pilot has been getting, I'll probably check it out when it airs in September. I'm a sucker for anything vampire related.

Here is the one sheet HBO will have floating around.

"premiere" is Sept 7th, I'd guess before Entourage is on.

Screener leaked onto the net last week. First episode is pretty good, I like most of the supporting cast.

By last week, you mean back in June? Or is there another one that I somehow haven't heard about that contains the new-and-even-worse-than-before Tara in it?

Edit: Ah, it seems Best Buy and Blockbuster are giving out promo copies of it.

You don't like Tara? I thought the scene she had in the walmart rip off was hilarious. Maybe you need to know someone like that to find her funny.

I like Tara in the books. She's a much more minor character than in the show, but I wish they'd just expanded her existing character rather than do a total rewrite. I also think the original actress they had was a better choice.

The biggest problem for me with the show is still that it looks painfully obvious it was filmed on a backlot of a studio, and that not a single actor on the show has a passable accent for the part of Louisiana they're supposed to be in (or anywhere else in the south for that matter). Though, looking back, I guess I said all of that back in June... oh well, here's to hoping that episode 2 sucks a lot less than the pilot. I really want to like this show, every other vampire show is gone now.

You may be onto something there, but it takes an awful lot for me to speak negatively of anything with vampires and werewolves in it.
