I was watching the anime and reading the mangas for a while. Until the anime started to drag out forever and there were additional fluff scenes added, I guess to give more character development, but really sidetracked the main storyline. Too many "little island of no consequence" that they come across. Sort of turned into DBZ.

I first saw this series up to the Arlong saga about 3 years ago. The sub translation was awful though. Since then I've been looking for it, but had never found anything (outside of dubbed...no thx).

Thanks a ton for the links here folks. The subtitles on these versions are excellent.

Minor spoiler (very minor in fact)

I love all the characters and their backgrounds so much, it's mostly funny when they're interacting with each other - like Sanji and Zoro competing on that island with the huge dinosaurs they just own cause they can, hhaa, it's hilarious. When you're pretty far and you know Sanji, Zoro and Luffy are just mean in comparison to "regular" pirates, I love it when Luffy just comes by, looks at them both, and says "let's go" with a mean face - you know the shit has hit the fan. Will never forget that scene, I think it's about near Nami's ending.

The fight with Don Krieg got old because they'd cut away for commentary from the people watching every 15 seconds, the ending was pretty good though.

The guy who voices Don Krieg uses the same voice for everything, he sounds exactly like Kenpachi from Bleach.

How far are you? Ace and Smoker are pretty damn cool, when Ace teams up with Luffy's crew for a very short while he owns so much. I can't wait to hear more about Shanks either, or that guy with the large sword that owned Zoro.

Btw, (why) is Kevincheese banned?

I'm pretty sure he isn't, he just changed the text in his user cp. He isn't the only one with "banned" under his name, that isn't banned.

Also, moving on to episode 15. I can't remember that last time I've enjoyed a fansub this much.

I'm on ep. 51, tracker was down yesterday so I couldn't download the 51-60 batch. Smoker seems pretty awesome so far, and I don't think they've met Ace yet. Apparently the whole storyline becomes very serious after they get to the Grand Line, I read a bit about it but I won't mention anything for fear of spoiling it for you guys.

I'm on ep 30, the scene where Bellemere gets shot, and then later when Nami tries to cut off her pirate tattoo are pretty powerful for what is basically a kid's show, but to be the most popular manga in Japan I assume it has a wide range of people who follow it.

When Luffy gives Nami his hat, and then turns around to see Zoro there waiting for him, you just know they were off to kick ass.

Even the filler episodes in this anime are worth watching. Good stuff.
