Big Love

Has anyone seen this? I keep reading only good things and was thinking about downloading the episodes I've missed and start watching it weekly.

I watched like the episode of primier night and wasn't impressed at all. HBO was/is advertising it like there's no tomarrow so I figured it'd be somewhat impressive but nothing really drawed me in.

It's probably ok, but I couldn't get into it.

I have to agree somewhat, I'm a diehard fan of most HBO shows so I decided to give this a chance since it premiered after one of my favorite shows of all time, The Sopranos. Big Love was really hard to get into, but now after a few episodes in I'm hooked.

Very true, after the 3rd episode, I went back and rewatched the first two. Now I dont miss an episode. It surprisingly turned into a good show.

I've been enjoying it as well - well, except for Bill Paxton getting naked way too much - its an intriguing look at a fairly taboo subject in American society, and a not very flattering look at the Mormon church.

It isn't The Sopranos, but I think it is excellently done; but then again, I am somewhat of a student of religion so even if the show outright sucked I would still very likely find it intriguing.

I would recommend it! If it isn't your cup of tea, its only 3 hours of your life wasted.

The official Mormon church meaning the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints? No.

But enough similarity/questions to stir an official response from the Church of Latter Day Saints:

I mis-spoke when I said Mormon church; I probably should have said Mormon 'faith' instead.

Something tells me that while the show is obviously fiction, somewhere in the backwoods - or maybe big cities - of Utah, people are still out there practicing this 'old school' brand of the Mormon faith.

Anyone still watching this? This remains my guilty pleasure from my steady diet of 24, Lost and Sopranos.

I still find it to be well done; I think Roman makes a creepily sinister villain, and the depiction of actually trying to pull off polygamy in the modern world is fascinating to me. Of course, I might be alone in that, but hey, I've liked Bill "News flash, we just got our ASSES KICKED out there!" Paxton since Aliens and Chloe Sevigny is hot in a weird sort of way.

Still watching it. I almost stopped after the first 4 episodes but then they finally picked it up. I agree with the posters above, after the first few episodes I just sat there thinking-"Ok, we all get it, you've got a bunch of wives so now what are you going to do with this show?".

It started to get good when the "affair" started imo. And I don't think it is at all fictional. There was some blurb at the end of the first show stating that there are an estimated 40,000 practicing polygamists today.

Also, there is plenty of mocking of the mormon church, not just the mormon "faith". The whole plot line with Margie's neighbor, especially this last episode when they try to set her up with the creepy mormon guy. "I think I had a revelation last night, DEEP IN MY BOSOM!"

I lol'd.

There are several scenes with the oldest daughter and her friend where they discuss polygamy and the church and the properness of it all. Not a lot, I don't think they want the show to come off as overly preachy. I am surprised that someone as visible as the main character would be wouldn't have more scrutiny shined on his three houses.

This show is ok, but only ok. I'm waiting for Deadwood and The Wire, I don't see myself crying over this. If anything it kind of pisses me off that Carnivale got dumped but this shit stays.

Do they count each wife in that 40,000 number or just per husband?

Just bumping this back up into the TV House consciousness; Big Love is now Monday nights and comes back for its second season June 11th.

So everyone has a few weeks to watch the last season if you missed it and get cuaght up!

I've rewatched it some and I am still let down, the conflict with Roman fails to be interesting and ultimately never goes anywhere. I find myself praying for a freaky Mormon 3 way just to make the show interesting. Not my thing I guess.
