Anime: Winter '08

This deserves its own thread rather continuing the Fall '07 one really.

Who Subs What: WINTER 2008 - The Fansub Wiki

Winter 2008 Preview! | Random Curiosity

So far I've watched Ayakashi (Mishicorp's mkv sub) - it looks to be interesting, definitely going to keep watching it.

Ayako-BakaWolf just put out a 720p h264 mkv sub of Rosario+Vampire so I'm downloading that now. m33w has a sub of H2O out, but I'm waiting on their h264 version. And actually m33w/BakaWolf are apparently one and the same so you can get both shows at m33w's website.

Oh, I've also watched the first episode of Macross Frontier - holy fucking shit you have to download one of the 720p HD subs and watch this. The animation is crazy and <3 <3 <3 Valkyrie Fighters (still some of the best mecha ever designed). Sadly only the first episode is out for now. The series will start a full run in Spring.

Mnemosyne sounds cool on that list. Hopefully that'll be good.

Posted this in the Fall thread but goes in Winter...

Watched H2O - Footprints in the Sand, the animation quality looks really good. And has me intrigued, Ill definitely keep watching this one.

Watched Rosario + Vampire, the animation wasn't that great and the first ep was kinda meh. I like the premise though so I'll keep watching and hopefully it'll get better through the season.

I'll probably watch:

True Tears
Ookami to Koushinryou
Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

Maybe watch:
GUNSLINGER GIRL -IL TEATRINO-
Mnemosyne

As an aside: Watched the new Ah! My Goddess OVA a while ago and that was good. Of course it helps that Kikuko Inoue is one of my favorite voice actresses. And also watched the new Kimi ga Nozomu Eien OVA that was interesting since they're going the alternate route.

Edit: Kinda glad m.3.3.w is working with Baka now, m.3.3.w. does a good job with their subs and are quick as hell with getting them out.

So does all this shit actually air on "regular" TV over in Asialand? Do they have a station like Cartoon Network, but it puts out good programming and not just stupid kid shit?

Pretty sure they air it on networks, like TV Tokyo and Fuji TV at regular times in the evening for major ones and later etc...

Not really like the cartoon network, they're actual networks with morning shows etc..but with Anime mixed in.

Just watched the first episode of the new Major season. Starts out perfectly, I'll be looking forward to another great season of this show.

Gonna be keeping an eye on Mnemosyne, if someone finds a group that confirms that they'll be subbing it, post it up. All i saw from the first link was people intending to do it though it hasn't yet aired i take it?

AniDB says Mnemosyne is 6 episodes spread over 8 months.. so. Rosario to Vampire & H20 were pretty good, will probably watch till end. Though I can watch anything in that genre.

Am I the only one who thought Rosario was godawful? How many panty shots can one episode have before they just say "fuck it" and ditch the skirts?

R+V certainly did have a lot of fanservice, however what man can actually say that too much panty is a bad thing? As for the series plotline it displayed the premise well, whether it has a decent story I'll reserve judgment on till past the first episode.

The fanservice level didn't really bother me, but I have a pink-hair fetish.

But anyway.

I dunno. Fanservice is probably inevitable. I expect H20 to be reasonably innocent, but even there a blind kid got free passes to grope girls throughout the episode.

"Hey, you're sitting on my face."
"Don't breathe, it tickles~"

But Rosario just felt pointless and didn't even look that good. The Hot Anime Chicks thread is a better source of both fanservice and dialogue. The action stuff was pretty meh, and each character shown so far is likely retarded. It'll be 10 episodes of the guy being useless, 2 of him discovering something, and a finale of him rescuing/redeeming her. No other characters will matter.

I'd love to be wrong

Meh, sometimes it's fun to enjoy mindless shit like that - IE Ninomiya.

Also - way too Loli for my tastes.

Ninomiya was entertaining for mindlessness...the end credits/song = hilarity.

But anyway, with Rosario yeah the fanservice stuff, but like I said earlier it seems like an entertaining premise. The animation quality wasn't great by any means either. I'll keep watching though just to see if it gets better and to have a mindless anime for this season.
