So are the writers adapting the stories to James Gandolfini's ballooning waistline (e.g., the shots of him stuffing his face with all-you-can-eat sushi), or is Gandolfini packing on the pounds for the sake of the character? I'm assuming it's the latter; they've always made Tony's gluttony and greed an important trait.
I remember reading that Gandolfini actually lost weight once but before production started he was told to stop because the producers wanted to portray a stout Tony. Steve Schirripa (the guy that portrays Bobby Baccalieri) used/uses some sort of prop belly in order to look fatter than he already is.

I don't watch the show, but I do have an opinion on this here.

That does sound like a great, theatrical ending. Would be great for a miniseries, a regular running show or Hamlet (thats the one right?).

It would probably even play out as I watch the entire series on DVD someday.

But I dont know how it will play to fans who have waited almost 2 years for a new set of shows to come out.

I could be way off, but then again, you never know.
I have given up making predictions on two shows - The Sopranos and BSG. The writers just keep me guessing, although I can regularly predict other shows (which is why I watch very little TV). For instance, I thought that the feds would be trying to put the noose around Tony this season and thought the two snitches in episode 1 would be integral to doing it. My prediction was flat out wrong. One snitch dies of natural causes and the other looks at his picture of Florida, grabs a Florida sea shell, and proceeds to hang himself (rofl, what a weird scene seeing him flail his limbs like that). And I could never have predicted in BSG that they would settle on a planet other than Earth, the military would bail out on the civilians, the cylons would become humanity's overlords and the show would fast forward a year. That's why these are my two shows on TV.

The feds may still try to tighten the neck around Tony, but he could also ride off on a horse named Trigger into the sunset at seaon's end.

I for one am going to miss the Sopranos when it goes off after this season .

Nothing like an excuse to pig out. If people ask him why he is ruining his health, he could always say he is getting paid $1m an episode to do it. At the end of the episode, his face looked so fat that it didn't look like him. I wonder if they used some sort of props on his face to make it look fatter?

Tony is one of the biggest reasons I love the show, they can't have him sitting on the sidelines all season. I love christopher though so if someone is going to take over the spotlight it needs to be him.

Tonights weird dream sequence/hospital episode wasnt my favorite. It was meant to be slow, granted, but man, what was the plot progression? Also, what was the allegory of the dream sequence supposed to be?

Anyways, it looks like the coma theory might be it. So long Tony, have fun burning in hell

I liked the episode, i loved how his dream sequence incorporated what was really happening to him in subtle ways. Having an upset stomach so he didnt eat the grouper, the alzheimers reference to his uncle, and most blatantly, him going to pick up the phone near the end and then deciding against it was probably a metephor for him trying to come out of the coma but deciding against it for the time being. The end music was a nice choice also, very haunting considering the context.

Im curious about the path they chose for AJ though, that could get seriously interesting, saying he flunked out of school again and him swearing to kill junior, maybe he has a mob future ahead of him yet.

I thought it was a good episode. I think the AJ thing might foreshadow the end of the series, as well.

hurray an emo crybaby is going to take over the sopranos after he sees his father helpless in a bed with a great big gaping hole in his stomach. after 2 years on hiatus thats the best they can come up with? why not just play fucking reruns of tony dreaming about his horse

Friend of mine has been saying that for year Cybsled, that Meadow would take over. She won't=P Neither will AJ, they've both been intentionally kept away from the life and wouldn't know what the fuck they were doing. It's not like the family would follow them just because they're tony's kids. Christopher has been groomed for it for years.

On the subject of the dream stuff, he also incorporated the 2 asians(the buddhists), after he woke up for a little bit and presumably saw his doctor.

One thing I was curious about was the lighthouse he kept seeing, or we kept seeing in the background. Is there really one like that in Costa Mesa, California? And what was it's significance? First thing I thought was it represented the heart monitor, as long as it was going he'd keep going. That doesn't feel right though so I dunno.

Also has there ever been any mention of Costa Mesa on the show before?

Good thought on him not calling at the end, makes sense to me=)

Vito(fat gay mobster) is gonna get killed before too long I think. Or he's gonna come out of the closet, which will make him as good as dead to the rest of them anyways.

Yeah I've noticed a lot of snide comments about him from the other three guys. They showed him with his arm around Meadow's boyfriend in the previews, who is the same one who saw him giving the security guard a BJ.

I don't see the other guys following Chris... He's way too young and too much of a moron. if anythign it would be Sylvio or Paulie.

I think Tony will wake up, it's what, 21 episodes left? i don't see a 21 episode dream sequence here.

and the dream sequence I think is like his purgatory. I'm guessing the way "back" is to find this Kevin guy and get his shit back. Or maybe that's the way to heaven/hell/whatever.

I hate Chris. He's such a whiny, selfish piece of shit sometimes. He never listens to Tony when he needs to. After all these years, you'd think he would have matured some. If he takes over without a considerable change in personality, he'd be killed pretty quickly.
