Who has the top cartoon comedy burst DPS channel wide?

Okay, misleading title, but as of South Park's Family Guy episode, I've come to wonder, what's the consensus on humour-based cartoons at FoH? Which do you prefer and why? Several of my friends have aligned themselves with one or another-- so far most have leaned towards family guy after South Park had the Muhammad episode; I think they read too much into the episode as a flame on Family Guy rather than just a stupid situation they were poking fun at in general (I thought SP was making more fun of themselves than the Griffin man, really).

That all being said, it lead to a lengthy debate between some friends and I as to the nature of the jokes of each show, and were was actually funnier... and stayed funnier in the long run. I prefer Family Guy myself, South Park seems so much more engrossed in shock humor to me that the jokes really get old after so many episodes... Hey guys, lets make a joke about getting fucked up the ass again! Yeah! Ummm... Let's have someone get shit on! Right on hahahaha!

But then again, I know quite a few people who absolutely HATE the way Peter reminisces in every other scene. That's personally one of my favorite points of the show, it helps mix it up for me and FG tends not to be sooooo focused on being controversial as South Park, even though they both frequently take advantage of it. Overall though, South Park appears to me more as an attention whore at this point, something I attribute to Comedy Central's way of advertising the show. Whatever. Perhaps neither is actually "better" but i have a feeling that there are many opinions here that would differ from that.

Or perhaps there's something else that surpasses both for continual hilarity? Aqua Teen maybe? Futurama? I don't know, I like all of these shows but I'm partial to Family Guy. What's the deal then, rickshaw runners? CAN ANYONE TAKE THE TITLE?!?11

south park used to be humor masking an issue in society, its pretty much dropped the mask and uses it as a prop now. still a good show but its akin to the daily show / colbert report.

family guy was a fresh breeze at first but a lot of the characters are becoming quickly stale for me. simpsons had this issue but had a myriad of characters to draw from, and might reuse them down the line. if they added more flavor characters like peter's boss which could incorporate a bigger part of an episode then use him later i could see it lasting a while. solid humor at times but its old fast.

simpsons i havent seen in ages, but i hear the writing got better? was pretty bad early 2000 so it turned me away.

tbh, i find adult swim with the best lineup in cartoons lately. venture brothers is nuts, squidbillies/athf always a great 11minute burst of humor(just enough time to slam jokes in but not drag the punch line too far). of course they have their misses as well with perfect hair forever and 12 ounce mouse. fucking garbage shows.

South Park has it's moments, great moments, but you nailed it. It goes for the little 8 year old in us.

South Park -> Family Guy -> The Simpsons

Now I'm not saying South Park is inferior to Family Guy. Nor am I saying Family Guy is inferior to The Simpsons. Their target audience in my opinion are different. There are days I want the dick and fart jokes of South Park. Some days I want the pop culture references of Family Guy. And other days I enjoy the moralistic, educated humor of The Simpsons.

Now having said all that, I would go for Family Guy as the winner of "burst humor". As you mentioned South Park's jokes just get repetitive. The Simpsons are more subtle and the set up takes longer. South Park is where you want to park your ass for some good old crassness. Family is where you want to set up shop for quick hitters and randomness. Pitch your tent at The Simpsons for something the whole family can enjoy.

You should really add Robot Chicken to the options. It is the epitome of Family Guy style humor, its like taking FG and just splicing together the flashback shit.

Adult Swim will always be linked to Velks for me. A friend of mine and myself were watching the Mooninites for the first time and could barely play. We got everyone else to change networks and it was a catastrophe.

My prefered 'cartoon' these days is Trippin' the Rift, though its more CGI than cartoon I suppose. Out of the selections here the Simpsons still wins, South Park has had a few good episodes but most aren't that great. I've always hated Family Guy however, they occasionally have something funny then drag it out for 5 minutes making it extremely painful to watch. Oh and http://familyguysteals.blogspot.com/

Family Guy - Sick of the old ones, annoyed by the new ones.

South Park - Very hit or miss, they try too hard and it shows sometimes.

Aqua Teen - Only a few episodes I wouldn't want to watch right now.

Futurama - Outstanding but I've seen every episode at least 40 times

Simpsons - Reminds me of my childhood, otherwise very meh.

Sealab - Most are funny, maybe one in ten suck.

Venture Brothers - Is great and I would love to see some new episodes.

Squidbillies - I like the background art, humor is pretty hit or miss.

Perfect Hair Forever - Remove now, kill staff

Tom goes to the mayor - Of all the episodes put together maybe 15 minutes total all funny.

Inuyasha - I like the music, yes that makes me a fag

FMA - Too much of a dick tease, I tried keeping up with this. I get excited about next weeks episode but it always leave me hanging. Not in a good way either.

If I had to watch one episode right at this very moment I would probably go with ATHF, the episode with the Suicidal Doll.

For the record I really like Family guy, probably not as much as South Park, they're very different shows...But sophisticated FG is not. South Park is like cavier to FG's big mac as far as sophistication goes.
