Star Wars Series in 08

Star Wars Television Series

100+ episode series to detail events between episodes 3 and 4.

It's not going to be as much fun without Triumph insulting the Star Wars geeks in lines outside of the theaters.

For the love of God, someone keep Lucas away from the scriptwriters!

I'm sure I'll be pathetic and watch it no matter how bad it sucks. I wonder what network it will be on. Fox?

This has been on the drawing boards for quite some time now, I hope it’s good. As long as Lucas has a hand in writing it and leaves others to actually create the show it should own.

if its anything like clone wars it should be fantastic, albeight clone wars was only 25 "episodes" long which were quite short, but still did well at being cool and getting the story across.

Are they focusing on Luke growing up? Or are they focusing on Darth Vader killing off the remaining Jedi out there.

I know this has been discussed for awhile now, but I am curious why he would do the show instead of the final trilogy? I have seen interviews where he has said that a final trilogy would be too taxing on him, and he'd like to work on other stuff before he dies. But instead of shooting six hours of movies (in a final trilogy), he opts for about 100 hours of tv? The conflicting thought process is confusing to me. I thought he was time constrained?

Also, how many fans are going to expect awesome special effects like in the movies? Will they tune out when they see the toned down effects for the show? There's no way they can run a budget like the movies.

Oh, and I estimate that this will be a top ten show (ratings wise) for at least the first season.

Shit, I'd bet this will have the most watched premiere/launch of any show, ever.

Someone bet me.

After RoJ would be 10000x more interesting. It'll be kinda lame to watch 100 episodes of a show and know where it's heading the entire time. He must actually like his new shitty movies more than the old ones.

Oh man how many episodes you think they will milk it before Luke tells Lana Lang he's from another planet and has special powers?

From what I've read, they seem to be focusing on Luke's childhood. If that's the case, I think it's a huge mistake for any number of reasons:

a) How much excitement can you get out of some kid's poor, farmer boyhood? If the first Star Wars movie is any indication, young Luke saw basically no action beyond the occasional target practice on his uncle's farm.

b) And let's say they decide to make Luke's youth action packed, with jedi and villains aplenty. In that case, it's kind of a big "fuck you" to the first movie in the series. It destroys the mythology of Luke Skywalker as some virtual unknown, who had to step into the role of hero reluctantly and seemingly by chance. I can just picture them doing this, and then George Lucas going back to re-edit A New Hope's dialogue and plot. Instead of Luke seeking out Obi-Wan, it will be Obi-Wan finding Luke and saying "Yo d00d I heard ur 1337 j3d1, i'm LFG want 2 team up!?!?!111"

c) Let's not forget what a steeming pile of shit the idea of following 8-year-old Anakin turned out to be in The Phantom Menace. Those scenes of baby Anakin on Tatooine were excruciating to watch. Mainly because nothing important could or did happen there. It will be a similar affair with young Luke. Even if Luke is, say, 16 in this series, how much can you really do with him at that age, and prior to his jedi discovery and training?

In my opinion, a much better timeline -- assuming you're going to focus on Luke -- would be the year or so that takes place between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. According to Star Wars lore, at least a year is unaccounted for between those two episodes' timelines. There's plenty of material to work with in that gap. For all Luke knows, Darth Vader is, for the time being, conveniently out of the picture -- but the Empire is still very much around and in charge. I'm sure there are plenty of situations and adventures for him to fall into. Granted, you'd have to work around the fact that you couldn't use Mark Hamill to play Luke. But then again, I'd sooner accept some lookalike playing his interpretation of Luke Skywalker in post-ANH, pre-ESB than I would some annoying brat playing young Luke pre-ANH.

Fuck that, make it a post-ROTJ series about Rogue Squadron. I'd watch that shit for the next decade faithfully.
