DirecTV or Dish or Cable?

Now that I can afford $50 a month again I'm trying to decide which is the best route to take. I'm missing some pretty sweet shows and Sopranos are coming back soon... so i gotta get something. DirecTV looks good, and has the XM and Tivo built in, along with ability to purchase the NFL package next season... all for ~$50 a month, but the $200 deposit is killing me... next in line is Dish, which i guess is... good or whatever, but do they even have a tivo built in or would i have to pay for tivo separately? Last in line is going back to Cox Cable which is nice and simple (no install or setup or extra equipment) but it's ~$80 a month which is a bit high for my taste. Basically I just want local channels , a few cable channels and HBO for ~$50 a month. Which would you choose?

Oh and USD TV looks promising too... but i'm not so sure i want an antenna hooked up to each tv. Anybody have it?

Oh and here's a SS

Agreed.

I didn't think DirecTV offered local channels though, but I know very little about that.

For what you're looking for, i'd honestly just go with cable. DirecTV is nice though too, we're using it now because the cable isn't up in these damn hills quite yet, but i'm happy with it for now.

I have had Dish Network since 2000 and I have not had one outage yet, other than the rare, occasional huge thunderstorm or snow, but that only lasts minutes and is expected with satellite.

I have local channels, and I used to have a shitload of pay channels but I recently cancelled them because I didnt watch them.

The thing thats nice about Dish is now when your a new subscriber, they will give you cool equiment for free, like a divix type recorder and other recievers for up to 4 rooms, and if im not mistaken install it for free.

My parents still have Cable in our local area and she pays alot more for less programming.

I have digital cable through cox and I'm really quite pleased with the service, it has all the options of satellite, without the hassels of worrying about weather conditions and local programming, but... digital cable is considered to be the most expensive.

DVRs (tivo wannabes) and HD channels are now available for digital cable, and in demand is the shit (can you get in demand with satellite?).

In my lame attempt to avoid biasness: According to the holiday issue of consumer reports, satellite is the way to go.

for digital cable in my area (charter)....

satellite tv had higher quality images
satellite tv had literally twice as many channels
satellite tv cost half as much

Clear winner ... satellite
