I have a feeling he's eventually going to create problems for Jack, based on - if nothing else - his tendency to overthink and overanalyze things. He may grow suspicious of Jack once again, and start the whole government-vs-Jack-Bauer cycle again.

Then again, he's been a pretty effective deus ex machina in Jack's favor so far this season.

We'll see.

P.S. - My God, Sean Astin is even fatter in 24 than he was in Lord of the Rings! Poor guy...

I'm waiting for the president's chief of staff to sprinkle bread crumbs on Samwise's blanket while he's sleeping, and then use the situation to turn Jack against him.

I was actually hoping that season 5 would have Jack as the villian. Have season 5 open up with a newscast saying it is the anniversery of President Palmer's assassination. Have Jack be drawn out of hiding to stop a crisis, then about episode 12 reveal that Jack is the mastermind behind the plot against the evil President Logan and government (who had Palmer killed, drove jack into hiding etc). The last half of the show would be spent having us following the show from badJacks pov as he tries to bring down Logan, and get away with it.

Unfortunately, while this season has alot of similiarities to what I had hoped, it just isn't possibly since Jack would never be party to Palmers death.
