Firefly

Ok, I tried to search for the old thread talking about Firefly and stuff, but hey, it wasn't there or something. Anyways...

Anyone else excited it's going to be on Sci-Fi friday nights at 7pm est?? I never downloaded/bought the series on DVD, and I'm excited to see what all the buzz is about before Serenity comes out. Assuming I like this (which I'm sure I will) any suggestions as to whether or not to buy the DVD set (if there is one)?? Any cool features and bonuses or whatever?

It's worth buying. I go through it once every couple of months, just a day-long binge of Firefly. This is the first of three shows that were/are awesome and that Fox let go by the wayside. (Firefly, Wonderfalls, The Inside)

Someone seriously needs to stop getting these cool ass shows. THey don't know what the fuck to do with them.

God damn I loved that show. I was extremely pissed off when Fox pulled it.

God forbid we have something a little creative on TV. But no, if it's not a shitty medical, courtroom, or cop drama then it doesn't deserve to be on TV.

I'm assuming you're talking about the CSI/The Practice/ER and their various knockoffs. Yeah they're overplayed, but at least FX does something different with Nip/Tuck and The Shield. Rescue Me is great also~

Watching the extra's, they said that fox aired the first episode Serenity (double length ep.) somewhere in the middle of the series. Hopefully you guys get it the right way round this time. + They missed a couple of episodes.

Serenity film trailer just has me excited

I picked up the firefly box set by accident (somehow it got stashed between 'Indiana Jones' and 'The Matrix' in the checkout line) about 9 months ago.

The best series i've watched that I didnt mean to buy.

I got a chance to catch a local advance screening of Serenity on June 23, not going to spoil it other then by saying I was very pleased as a fan.

If you're going to see the movie check out the series first.

Firefly is great if what you're into is cheesy sci-fi, with tons of one liners from stereotypical characters.

It's sci-fi by the guy who made Buffy, what else would you expect? Serenity is practically the only movie left this year that I care whether it lives up to expectations or not. Everything I've heard so far says it's a great movie, and since it has almost no chance of failing financially due to low budget and huge fanbase, two more movies are all but guaranteed.

And add Dead Like Me to the list of outstanding shows cancelled to make room for utter shit (Fat Pig, er Actress in this case). Sadly, there's not even a movie to look forward to in that case.

Firefly was a fun series, and Serenity looks appealing.

It wasn't that great, but I really miss John Doe. I liked that show.

I enjoyed Tru Calling a lot also and it looked like it was really going to develop some good storylines in season 2.

As for firefly, that is one of my favourite shows and I easily recommended it to anyone. Don't know about the use but here the dvd set costs $27 ($20US) so wouldn't break the budget to buy I don't think. I say watch the first episode on tv and if you like it, then buy the dvds.

The two hour pilot was actually the last episode Fox ever aired. Sci-Fi is planning to show all episodes, including the ones Fox didnt, in their intended order. The international trailer for Serenity was released recently too, makes me all the more excited for the movie.

I loved this show, still one of my favs to this day.

haha, tru calling got preempted by a presidential address and something else 2 weeks in a row, and I haven't seen it since. Jason Preisly (and luke perry) are like living kiss of deaths to any shows that go near. Running scenes are always good. runrunrun.
That chick has some serious racoon eyes. It kinda looked like someone punched her in some of those episodes. I dunno what make-up they use on her...but go back to how she was done up in the buffy episodes.

Wonder Falls was very strange. I liked it, and I only realized I hadn't seen it in forever when the Family Guy ran off his list of a dozen failures that Fox all went through before they renewed it. I actually thought it went to cable.

Especially if you plan to see the movie immediately when it's released. The Sci-fi Channel is only going to get to about episode 10 or so before the movie hits theaters. The movie takes place a few months after the end of the series.

Definitely buy/rent the DVDs, because the show improves a lot as the season goes on. I was very impressed that they rewrote the final episodes to give the series a nice closing after they found out that it was being cancelled. Dead Like Me was created by the same people, and I liked it even better than Wonderfalls... unfortunately that one got cancelled between seasons by the retards at Showtime and while season 2 didn't end in a cliffhanger, it didn't really have an "ending" either. Still the best TV show I've ever watched though, highly recommended.

I wasn't one of the lucky ones that got to see an early screening but the movie is supposedly a bit more "gritty" than the TV series. Overall, everyone that's seen it has been fairly orgasmic about it but that's probably to be expected from the types that scramble for pre-screening tickets. Apparently Whedon decided to make use of the advantages going to the big screen gives you when it comes to violence and the like.

Personally, I like Whedon's stuff. I'd like to see a Fray movie made even though it's just a continuation of the "slayer" universe.
