| Give me a TV show (non-anime) Ok guys, it's christmas, I've got some time off, so I've decided to pick up a DVD box set of a season or 4 of a good T.V. show. Hard part is the box sets can get pretty expensive, and I don't really have too much cash to throw around. So, if you could recommend 1 or 2 shows that are out on DVD that absolutely must be watched, that would be awesome.

+2 Internets | Firefly I've loaned this set out to 7 different people now. Every single one has loved it and in turn went to see the movie from it(Serenity). Newest Family Guy DVD just came out. Also Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Cartoons. Both hilarious.

+1 Internets | Depends heavily on what type of genre you like. Sci-fi: Stargate SG-1 Action/Adventure: Alias (easily the best TV show I've ever seen, especially the first season.) Drama/Comedy: Dead Like Me |

| How old are you? Flame me for this, but my friend borrowed me first season of The O.C. and I liked it.

+2 Internets | Mixing all genres of comedy with a lot of creativity while still being dramatic at time, great cast and great guest stars in great roles: Scrubs. Very well written teenage and adult drama. An age old recipe in a new mold: The O.C.

| Most of what people have said here are good suggestions. You pretty much cannot lose with anything from HBO or Fx. I'd also add in Babylon 5 if you are a big science fiction fan. There are five complete seasons. The first was a little weak in the beginning but got progressively better. I'd also add in Buffy for the horror/comedy fans. The last season I thought was very good. |

| If your looking for an excellent series that you have probably never heard of, with a somewhat cult-dedicated fanbase. Check out The Wire. Otherwise: Buffy The Vampire Slayer Angel Deadwood Sorpranos Battlestar: Galactica Rome The Shield Nip/Tuck Edit: Added Rome |

+4 Internets | No one's mentioned Lost that I can see, that's a good'er. Trailer Park Boys (if available in the US) - Seriously, you will LOVE this show if you like comedy Newsroom - Dark sarcastic humor about the news, very funny, reminds me of Seinfeld in a lot of ways |
