| Oh for the love of Pete. To repeat: Ben had to blow up The Orchid to get to The Wheel. Therefore either: The Others built The Orchid station after The Purge (which for various reasons, is unlikely). -Or- Dharma built The Orchid before The Purge, and The Wheel has remained unused since before The Orchid was built. Furthermore, The Island has not been moved since The Purge (which continues to raise the question, why hadn't the global in nature DI come back in all those years). Now, it is possible, even preordained, that one polar bear was used to move the wheel / was in the testing chamber when they had the power set too high, such that Charlotte could later find it in Tunisia. But that the only reason the bears were on the Island was to move The Wheel is rendered impossible by a whole fucking building being in the way. |

+7 Internets | Pretty sure Ben/Others would know about that.

+4 Internets | Amen. If polar bears have anything to do with pushing that wheel, I'm going to be sorely disappointed. Other than the fact that both things are "cold" I can't imagine why so many people are dead set on that theory. I'm guessing there are other ways for someone to end up off the island in a random spot without turning the damned wheel. Seems a whole lot more plausible to me than training polar bears to do it. |

+4 Internets | A polar bear with a dharma logo ends up in the desert like Ben does after turning the wheel and you can't see that as plausible that it also went through the same port?

| This. Yes it might be a stupid concept but they are either trying to make it very obvious that people can't believe how simple it is or it's another Lost subtelty that they will either never answer or end up pulling something out of their ass and saying "omg you are so stupid for thinking that, it's painfully obvious that THIS is what really happened". |

+20 Internets | It's entirely possible that the bear went through the same spot, but entirely stupid to suggest that the entire thing behind the bears is that they are magicked over to the island and trained to turn that wheel. It's stupid. Like something I would have made up in 2nd grade. |

+20 Internets | It is much worse, in my opinion, it is downright dumb. Why in the world would it make any sense to take one of the most aggressive animals on earth and train them to clean house and shit? Last edited by chaos : 06-23-2008 at 12:11 PM. |

Maybe they used Polar Bear cubs explaining the small hole? Less time investment getting the bears if you have 2 breeders and you are only growing them for a couple of years. Assuming it's hard to get regular shipments of adult polar bears. This all seems blatantly obvious and not stupid whatsoever.

+20 Internets | It is stupid because as a guy managing this "Turn the donkey wheel" project, you come to umpteen million other ways to mitigate the cold before you get to "Hey guys let's adapt the most viscious, man-eating animal on Earth for domestic purposes!" It doesn't matter if that's pushing a wheel or scrubbing my grout. It's so far out in left field, it isn't even in the park anymore, and it makes no logical sense at all. And what leads anyone to believe that this wheel has been turned so often that is requires this crazy, fantastic program in order to continuously turn the wheel? Didn't Ben lead us to believe that it's pretty much a poor decision, but also a last ditch decision? Last edited by chaos : 06-23-2008 at 01:11 PM. |
