Started watching a few weeks ago, finally caught up.

Random observations:

Widmore's boat race = one of his many attempts to find the island. The same sort of desperation as Jack flying back and forth across the globe.

Abadon works for Widmore, but he was also instrumental in getting John to the Island, what the flippin fuck? Is Abadon on his own side? Perhaps they just wanted to ensure that Ben is replaced since he's too damn devious an adversary.

"The Rules" - say what? They made a bargain at some point, perhaps in the aftermath of the purge. Widmore could also be a previous chosen that was ousted. That would explain why they don't kill each other, just like how Ben admitted that shooting Locke was clearly pointless.

Aaron, Ben, John = all born premature. Aaron is the next chosen one.

Locke constantly chooses the path he wants instead of the path he is meant for. The Island corrects this. He takes the knife because that is what he wants, but he likely knew what the real answer was and that is why Richard is so angry. That or Richard already knew the truth but Locke's choices represented an omen that frightened/angered him. Sand, compass = leadership. Book of Laws = benevolent leader, knife = violent leader? Could be, but I go with the simpler explanation.

Ben's teases Locke for struggling because Ben himself went through it. He's at last come to terms with the fact that he has been replaced.

Ben killed Sayid's wife. Ben may think he's the good guy, but his motivation has changed. John has taken his place, now Ben is free to pursue his own interests. And Sayid is the perfect weapon for Ben. Plus, Widmore killing her makes no fucking sense anyway.

Ben teleported off the island, and it could have happened at any time due to the time warping effect. The island has been moved - can he even get back? The "Richard doesn't age" bit could also be teleportation.

Getting sick = the island's punishment and/or manipulation, as we already know. Take the hint Jack! Oh well. We know he likely winds up being the islands savior, or even Adam/Eve. They return to the island, the time barrier hits them and boom, they are hundreds of years in the past. See you in another life, brother.

Why the hell is Dharma still sending supplies and seemingly doing little else about the fact that all of its people were wiped out? They clearly aren't allied with either faction. Of course, the supply plane could be in a time loop, but come on.

Others can't have babies - is the Island purging the old guard in favor of its new 815 chosen? I don't think the Island grants everlasting life (Adam and Eve)

Both Jin and Sun are on the tombstone. Jin's date of death is listed as the crash, but Sun is listed as still alive. That seems to indicate that the stone was NOT made as a memorial to the crash, but rather made after Sun escapes the island. Jin dies on the island or remains behind, and becomes part of The Big Lie about only 8 survivors. There's nothing to say whether he is dead, still on the island, or if Sun simply thinks he's dead when he isn't.

More than likely only the 6 escape the island because its moved before they can go back for more. It would be freaky cool if they try to go back with the ship but somehow wind up on Fiji. IMO the moving of the island simply means manipulating the barrier, but it could also again mean teleportation.

On Sawyer dodging bullets like John McClaine - duh, the Island protects him! He's finally showing how he's progressed since killing, uh, Sawyer. He's clearly become the hero he was meant to be by being super protective of all the people he previously treated like shit. Redemption is a huge theme of the show so, there you go. It would be more surprising if Sawyer manages to live than if he dies, but I wouldn't expect it until near the end.

Christian isn't just a ghost, he may even be a reanimated friggin corpse, remember? (coffin was empty)

"It also explains why Miles was so interested in her when he was walking with her and Sawyer. He's a ghost-whisperer or something so he realized that she was dead before anyone else, even her." Whoa, cool. I wouldn't buy it until they come out and say it, but that would seriously be awesome.

Wasn't there some movie with a sci fi theme where some military guys go crazy and start killing people? He tries to use a nuclear bomb to kill some aliens or something. Maybe I just dreamed it.

I'm getting a mental image of a black box with a shadowy figure in front of a bright blue light. Weird.

I don't follow the details outside the show, but really don't think killing her off was part of the plan until she got arrested. I really thought it was a good sub-story.

yep i saw libby as a nurse talking to michael in a state of delirium, but that 2 second cameo in one episode may not mean she is back on the show. i like the claire is dead theory, cuz when they revive claire after the rocket blows up her cabin the first thing she says is "Charlie?". that may be why she gives up aaron. i guess they killed her off cuz since they killed off charlie her storyline seems to be over.

Dharma has shown it has a affinity for independent, isolated cells operating without leadership. I am willing to bet there is a Dharma station somewhere else whose job is to send supplies without question, not revealing their source. That way, the island can be restocked without fear of the "warehouse" getting attacked and stopping the airdrops. Prevents a siege from taking place.

Wild "wouldn't it be cool" speculation: Libby helps return Hugo to sanity. Again.

Yeah, I pretty much assumed that.

Also, Hurley's imaginary friend should turn out to be another projection from the Island, and not just Hurley being crazy. The numbers aren't cursed either, it was just the island's way of getting Hurley onto flight 815.

That said, do you think of the Island as a conscious entity, or is Jacob simply doing what he can to protect a valuable piece of real estate/nexus for psychic energy?

I've always thought of it as a little bit of both.

So, I dunno if anyone has mentioned this yet... but it should provide some content for you guys to tear into.

In the most recent episode, anyone else notice that the "secondary protocol" book that the mercenary on the freighter opens up has the Dharma logo behind the front cover?

maybe when Locke said they need to move the island he didnt mean to physically move the island, but to change the heading that faraday calculated of getting to and from the island? maybe the island isnt really anyplace and the only way you can find it is if you use some kind of mathematical code. sort of like contra you need to hit up and down and sideways a bunch of times to get all weapons. maybe you need to do something similiar to reach/leave the island?

also im thinking abaddon might be really working with the island cuz if he was allied with widmore then why would he want john on the island and why does he expect Locke to come back so he would "owe" abaddon?
