Anyone else listen to them?
I saw them play when they supported Children of Bodom in May, and a day ago I bought one of their albums - fear will drag you down. They're like a strange In Flames, and have toured with them a few times as well.

I like the "Of One Blood" album a lot. Took me a while to get into it, but it grew on me. I went and bought "Art of Balance" last year, and it was pretty good, too.

They've got a lot of old-style metal in them, which I really like, but they always seem to do one little thing in every song that just doesn't sit right when I listen to it. For example, the song "Of One Blood" is one of my favorites, but I hate that little harmony-guitar-chop-rhythm thing they do right at the beginning of the guitar solo.

Yeah, I know it's nitpicking. But that's what happens after you've heard 3 billion bands playing the same type music.

I dig Shadow's Fall, but i agree with heugel where they add something in each song that doesn't seem to fit, but it's not a huge deal. I really dig the new album.

Check out The Crown in you like some old school sounding metal. They are more on the satanic side, but still some kick ass metal.

btw, In Flames rules! Alot of people don't like the new album, but i like it. It's different than the older stuff, but nothing wrong with change.

Change may be good, but some of R2R was just...not very good.

I hope their next album is another clayman

I was so happy I was almost in tears when my friend showed me this band. Finally, there is some real fucking metal out there. I'm talking about metal with serious harmonies, killer guitar solos, the works. Not nu-metal or some joke wannabe hardcore metal like Slipknot. Believe it or not metal is making a comeback, although it's really not mainstream. I dig Shadow's Fall, and although I don't think they're quite on par with some of the old-school metal Gods (old Metallica, Pantera, etc), they are without a doubt a step in the right direction.

I dunno if I just got a bad CD or something, but the new In Flames that I bought sounds like complete garbage, production wise. Very bass heavy, and a horrible overall mix.

If not, then I sincerely hope they hire some new studio hands for the next album. There's nothing worse than when crappy production ruins good musicianship and songwriting.

Check out Killswitch Engage if you're into real-sounding metal. It's not as instrument based as the SF and IF stuff, but still good nonetheless.

Shadows Fall and Killswitch Engage both have members of the band Overcast. If you like either band, I definitely recommend checking out their old Overcast stuff. Other really good metal from that area/scene is Converge.

I'm not sure why, but In Flames decided to leave Studio Fredman (where all the greatest melo-death metal is recorded) in favor of being produced by Daniel Bergstrand this time around. Bergstrand is famous for his production skills, so I can see how it seemed like a good idea at the time, but it sure didn't work out that way. They need to get back to Fredman and record an album like Dark Tranquillity's "Damage Done" and get rid of all this 'clean vocal' bullshit from the last two cds.

Shadows Fall is another band I worry about making too big of a change soon. Of One Blood is a lot better and heavier than Art of Balance and I'm afraid after making appearances on MTV, Ozzfest, etc. they'll be even more inclined to tone down the death metal vocals in their next cd. That would be a horrible mistake.

Every time Chimaera suggests something, it just reminds me how much I miss those old Hasty-metal conversations.

What's good here locally that I've been missing out on in the last 4 years? I don't get a chance to keep up with stuff anymore.
