+19 Internets | Iced Earth I was wondering if there were any IE fans here and what do you think of Matt Barlow leaving to 'persue a career in law enforcement'? Horrible in my opinion. Such a great voice that's going to waste. The last show I was at, they opened for Megadeth a month after 9/11 and both played awesome sets. I was looking foward to Jon Shaffer's 'best work' being released this year, and now I doubt we'll see anything until q3 of next year. |

| Jon Schaffer is a bit of an egomaniac. Personally, I applaud Matt for staying with the band as long as he did. Then again, I'm sure if I had any of the musical talent they did, I might be a little stuck up as well. Of course, that may have absolutely nothing to do with Barlow's career change. As far as his decision goes... well, everyone needs to eat. Unfortunately, America isn't too friendly on the acceptance of heavy metal bands anymore. Many bands retreat to Europe to sell records. It is very hard to make a living in America if you are a heavy metal band based here. I'm sure he will be replaced A.S.A.P., Iced Earth has a solid underground fan base. I enjoy them immensily, and I'm sure this will only be considered as a minor setback. I would guess we see something new from them by fall/winter of this year. I would say at the very latest, spring of 2004. That is just my opinion. Matt did have one hell of a voice. He will be missed. |
