+25 Internets | Good choices. There are a ton I can think of, as well, but here are a few that spring to mind: Alice In Chains - take your pick, lots of them. Whale and Wasp is a very melancholy song, considering there is no vocals Hayden - I don't know what it is about this guy, but there are numerous songs on his first album, Everything I long For, that really bring me down. A lot of his songs are done as a narrative or story. One example is a song called Skates, where he is working in a department store and some very sad and haunted looking man comes in wanting to buy the nicest skates he can get. Eventually you find out that his wife drowned in a river, but he can't swim, so he wants to skate down the river when it freezes over and find her. I dunno why, but just thinking about that chokes me up. Another is a song written from the perspective of the older brother of those two kids that were killed by their mother by their car being driven into a lake. One of the lines is "what did we do? I cleaned my room just like she asked me to", and again that chokes me up just thinking about it. Jerry Cantrell also has a couple good ones, one about the death of Kurt Cobain that is quite good. |

| Fiona Apple - Never is a Promise: Very sad lyrics, vocals, and melody. Anyone that ever had a dramatic breakup can relate to how sad this song is. Kronos Quartet - Lux Aeterna: From Requiem For A Dream. I guess I feel more pity then sadness from this score because how it was tied to the movie. Portishead - Roads, Only You, and Glory Box: It's portishead. She sings like she is crying almost, lol. But she never stops smiling when she is in concert. Too $hort - Blowjob Betty: Poor Betty. ![]()

| Yatta chokes me up everytime.... Seriously though, Whale and Wasp, good call Eomer. And I know it's horribly predictable to see this song here but I have to mention NIN - Hurt. As played out as it may be, it's still a classic.

| Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton is a good one, i was practically crying when i heard the reason for him writing the song, his son was killed from falling off the 3rd story balcony of their home. i was pretty young, but not super young (round 10)

| The Eternal Vow from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Cannon in D for piano by Johann Pachelbel, really wish i could play it, ditto for the vow. Compasses and Guns from Shawshank Redemption My December by Linkin Park...this one..um..well...this just kinda ties in with my belief that the worst thing that you can live with is regret. Moby - God Moving Over the Face of the Water, not too sure about why i think its sad. shrug. |

| Good call on Portishead, Ace. Beth's vocals could make Mozart's symphonies sound depressing, I love it. My contributions: Bright Eyes - I usually can't stand Emo, but this dude writes with such sadness, intensity and intelligence that it's impossible to get away. Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh and The Calendar Hung Itself are some great examples. PJ Harvey - I love her. Vocals, music, lyrics - all of her. For some truly depressing songs check out The Dancer, This Mess We're In, Common Billy, A Place Called Home, Good Fortune, Teclo, Beautiful Feeling. Sunday Munich - one of those "thanks guys, I think I'll go kill myself now" bands. Beyond your healthy depression. Think, Scathed, Dent, Phone, Prozac, etc etc etc Poe - Fingertips Delerium - Innocente Gary Jules - Mad World (from Donnie Darko) Sting - Fragile, Shape of My Heart Lisa Germano - Happiness, Geek the Girl Also, lots of stuff from Sigur Ros, Porcupine Tree, and some selected stuff from Opeth. |
