John Taylor from duran duran is criminally underrated.

Cliff Burton from metallica, Steve Harris from iron maiden, the guy from Fishbone who's name slips my mind...

here's a funny story. A somewhat, ummm... free spirited... friend of mine, who has a somewhat, ummm... elevated libido... went to a CD release gig for a fairly well known canadian band. Since it was at a bar the band mingled with the common people. My silly friend dragged a band member into a storage room or something and had her way with him. She tells me this the next day and I say something to the effect of "Rock star fucker" and she says "I didn't fuck a rock star, I fucked the bass player"

Cmon, everyone always drops the same names in these threads. What about people who knew their role?

Justin Chancellor, Colin Greenwood, and the guy from Rancid were all very good.

Geezer Butler layed down some amazing riffs back in his day. Sabbath in thier prime was one of those bands that the whole was greater than the sum of it's parts, and Geezer doesn't get nearly as much credit as he deserves.

thaak- Since you use a semi-obscure Tool lyric as your signature:

Peach= Justin's band before Paul left the big T (If you like Tool's You Lied cover on Salival, you should try to find a bootleg of thier Coachella concert. They covered You Lied, and Spasm in the same show[with King Buzzo on guitar too1!!11!])

Soreali- Newstead is NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE to being talented enough to warrant being mentioned in this thread. Neither am I, and I can play Cliff's riffs far more accurately and with more soul than Jason can. (Yes, I can.) If you don't believe me, just find a bootleg with Jason butchering Orion. It's disturbing. I can't listen to the whole song because I'm overwhelmed by the urge to hunt down and brutally murder a certian fucking bus driver.

edit: accidently typed Schism instead of Spasm

Depends on if Cliff was enough of a presence in the band to convince them to tell Bob Rock to fuck off.

well it is interesting to note that once they lost Cliff everything fell to peices, although some of the more cynical fans attribute this to having run out of mustaine written material...

John Myung
Tony Levin
Billy Sheehan
Jaco Pastorius
Les Claypool

All of these guys are good.. Easily among the best ever.

Trust me when I tell you though.. the best, scariest, most talented guy I've ever seen on bass is..

Ricky Wolking. Learn the name.

www.rickywolking.com

He's a freak, a phenom, an absolute blast to be around. Did I mention he's a freak? He's been Jennifer Batten's (Michael Jackson's guitarist) bass player for years, recently was a member of the Nixons (might still be.. but they REALLY don't use his talent at all), and I toured around the US with him in a band several years ago. Ricky is the man..

Here's one example of his playing that'll just rip your head off:

Professor Wilson

Changing gears.. here's more..

Skylar

Did I mention he's a freak? This is proof positive..

Chocolate
