Shakira : Talent or no?

What do you guys thinks?

She says she writes her songs. Does anyone know to what extent? Does she create the music to?

I seen one thing on TV with her, where she played with her band. How close is she with her band? Is it HER band, or is it a group of musicians (a la` Kelly Osbourne) that were hired?

I think she's a pretty girl. And I'm fucking nuts over a spanish accent,,, muhaha

Yea I think she has pretty good talent, the times I have seen her live on award shows and shit she is actually singing, and can sing live pretty damn well. I have never once seen Britney Spears actually sing, she just tosses in an "oh yeah!" every now and then to fool people. And Shakira only learned English a year or two ago, so that's pretty good.

As far as how involved in writing, I doubt she has very much to do with the actual music of the song, other than just laying basic groundwork. Good for her if she does though.

Oh yeah, i was also watching this thing on Christina Aguilera last night (I was fucking bored okay?), and holy shit she can belt it out. She was like 7 years old and had an unreal voice back then even.

Hey, did you guys happen to check out the Shakira cover Aeormsith's DUde Looks LIke A Lady? It was pretty good.. Live.

I thought it was pretty dang good, I liked when she ran over to Steven Tyler and he joined in.. I was impressed with his cameo in the song, cause I doubt they had the microphone or sound system or whatever setup for him, you know what I mean?

But aye, she can sing. Aquilera has a good voice too, but that new video she did was really over the top, you know what I mean?

Yeah, Shakira has a lot of talent, and at the very least, people should respect her for writing her own music. Listen to any of her old stuff, the spanish stuff, it's actually pretty amazing, and she writes it all. She just became poppier to make it big worldwide, but meh, i don't blame her.

Also, she did a live version of her old song "inevitable" (a pretty impressive song) with Melissa Etheridge, which i have to admit i liked.

All of the current boy bands / girl band / divas have talent in the sense of the word, but they all exploit their tits and ass to make it to the top.

That's where I take exception, I guess. They can sing - but they probably don't write their own shit, and when they finally convince their terrified producers to let them write their own stuff, it's usually bad!

Inevitable is one of the most beautiful songs... Shakira has a beautiful voice, and can actually play/write/sing her own songs. She is very talented, and as a major bonus she happens to be one of the most beautiful women on the planet with an incredible abilty to move her body.

Well, Her first Video makes me all tingly and giggly :-/

Besides, that her voice ain't bad. I dunno why, I can't stand the lyrics or beat to half her songs, but she's alright otherwise.

As far as image being important, I dunno, I sorta have hope for a new generation of singer/songwriters with Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton, but then again, I'm jading enough to wonder if maybe they aren't a processed image in thier own special way too

Fuck that, they are both still hot man. Just not in a "my tits are about to fly out of this shirt" type of way. Same goes with Avril Lavigne. Image is as important as anything for pop artists. However that's always been the case, it's just that lately the sexual side of it has become so fucking blatant.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a prob with those three really. Hell I actually kind of like Avril Lavigne (and want to marry her).

Dirrty or Beautiful? Personnaly, I think the Dirty video is a riot, she's such a hoe in it its funny.
