You know when you're talking to someone who does not like video games and then somehow it comes up that you play them? Their response is usually something like "oh yeah, I love video games". So, being curious, you ask them what they like to play and they reply "Super Mario is the best game ever". It's at that point you realize they don't know shit about your EQ/WoW addiction and how good Starcraft is, so you try to change the topic as soon as possible.

Class rock is the Super Mario of the music genre.

It doesn't matter what you like, have some taste though.

Doesn't change the fact that Super Mario was still some damn good gaming. And seriously, throw a few band names out there that shed some light on your enlightened listening. I'm curious what this great music you listen to is.

It doesn't really matter. If someone listed bands I hadn't heard of, or a genre that isn't generic as hell, I'd genuinely be interested and want to hear some songs from x bands.

Music I like: A Forest of Stars, Wolves in the Throne Room, God is an Astronaut, Giant Squid, Virus, Jaaportit, Kinstrife and Blood, Planet X, Rome, Winds... I could go on forever.

So I've listened to several of the bands you listed now. Just brought them up and if I liked the first song I heard moved on to the next band, if they sucked I'd give them a second song. Pretty much all I have to say is that your taste in music leaves you no room to trash talk classic rock. The musicians playing the shit you listen to couldn't play their way out of a paper bag by and large.

A Forest of Stars
Band sucks. I mean that. They aren't even particularly skilled with their instruments and the vocals blow.

Wolves in the Throne Room
Screamo evolved. Seriously going to put this band up there as 'good'?

God is an Astronaut
Pretty decent ambient stuff. This kind of music is definitely something you have to be in the mood for though to tolerate for longer than a song or two. No real complaints though they do what they do well enough.

Giant Squid
You are an absolute fool if you don't hear straight up classic rock influences in this band. The instrumental portions are a mix of Syd Barret era Pink Floyd, The Doors/Love/Yes, and maybe some Can. The vocals aren't even far off of the bands I just listed as instrumental influences.

Virus
Pretty generic rock. The band is almost tolerable. Actually remind me of Nirvana at times heh.

Jaaportit
Eh. See God is an Astronaut.

Kinstrife and Blood
Eh. See A Forest of Stars.

Planet X
I'm seeing a trend here. See God is an Astronaut.

Rome
Too many to find the exact Rome you'd have meant.

Winds
Not too bad. Vocals are kind of generic and overall the music is slow/boring. They know how to play their style of music well enough though.

No, that's how you operate. I don't know how much clearer I can make this, a song is a song is a song. Classic rock can be just as good or just as bad as anything out today, it's just another style of music. I like a lot of the classic rock that has survived through the years because a lot of them are genuinely good songs in their own right, and if released today would be top 40 hits again. Bohemian Rhapsody, anyone?

It's the nature of things. In 20 years when I'm still listening to Nirvana and Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains and Faith No More, some dipshit 20 something is going to tell me how much of a poser I am for not listening to Assless Nut Monkeys and how I'll never understand True Music because I listen to the equivalent of Halo 3.

In short, take your classic rock hating bullshit, shove it up your ass, and get the fuck out of my thread. I don't want to listen to your underground indie bullshit because your underground indie bullshit isn't worthy enough to lick the sweat off my nuts, I don't give a shit how many times they say they're going to tear their heart open.

P.S. New signature.

It seems that listening to the same 15 classic rock albums over and over has made you very angry, James. I hope you can find a constructive use for that rage.

It seems that reading the same 15 posts of you two sucking each other's cocks has made me angry is what it is. I don't even know how you can manage to go through life without fucking up bad enough to either kill yourself or render yourself unable to operate a computer. I imagine you breaking your fingers by doing something simple like trying to open a door. Not even slamming your fingers in the door, either, just turning the knob you'd find a way to fuck it up.

Oh, wait, no. I just got through listening to Helter Skelter, and now I'm going to stalk you and murder you.

Sorry.

There's no need to lash out to compensate for your generic musical tastes.

I'm sure we can discuss this constructively, like adults.

Talent != enjoyable music every time. I also never once said that classic rock is bad, you're just assuming because of what I said that I hate classic rock. I'm actually indifferent to it, it's more the people that solely like the genre for the reasons listed above that I have a beef with.

The type of person you described above is a tool for a number of reasons having nothing to do with music. I can't fathom giving a shit what other people think of the music I listen to and to say you like something just to avoid that criticism speaks volumes of the person and nothing of classic rock.

What exactly is classic rock though? As I get older, the local classic rock station has begun playing the music I was listening to in high school in the early 90's(It makes me feel old!). So is classic rock just "older rock music" or is it a specific time frame of the 60's and 70's? /shrug

Apparently this holds true with you. For most people, they can listen to Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, AC/DC, etc while listening to new music. Why don't you man up like possible and name some god awesome bands you listen to?

Before this circle jerk goes on any longer, can you faggots take your soggy indie biscuit elsewhere? I don't want to hear about your shitty goddamn bands that make you instantly cooler than some old geezer who listens to classic rock (which is actually good, and not merely what's hip right now).

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick. You two are about as enlightened as a fucking brick wall. You have all the sophistication of a fucking rock. You know who is cooler than you? Big W is cooler than you. Big W fucking Powa, who is a dipshit, is cooler than you two. You should be fucking ashamed.

Who is your favorite classic rock artist?

Is it Led Zeppelin or Floyd?
