Epica - Design Your Universe

I've liked Epica, but these two songs have blown me away. Their production quality is much higher, and overall performance of the band (especially by main vocalist, the lovely Simone Simons) is just plain better. The first video is the new music video, which is pretty bland with a stellar performance. The second video is a song their label Nuclear Blast posted the other day on their MySpace that I ripped and put on my YouTube account. Enjoy!

*If you could rate the second video 5 stars or favorite it, that would be appreciated. I think I was the second user to upload it?

If you're a symphonic or power metalhead and haven't heard of Simone Simons, you have now.

Vocalist Simone Simons has commented on the album: "It is so exciting! I love the new songs and can't wait to play them live."

The band's previous album, The Divine Conspiracy, was dealing with the idea that God created many religions and that it was to man to understand that they are all the same, and this album will be dealing with the power of thoughts and imaginations, as Mark Jansen stated:
Quote:
“The album title, 'Design Your Universe', deals with new breakthroughs in quantum physics. It proves that we are all connected to each other on subatomic level. Also, it shows that we can create or at least influence matter with our thoughts… a very interesting fact. Because it changes everything for us, our whole worldview collapses once you accept these facts and integrate them in your lives. So this had to become the new album title.”
Tony Kakko (front man; Sonata Arctica) said in an interview with "lagrosseradio":[2]
Quote:
“A small scoop, I'll sing on the next album of Epica, I'll do a duet with Simone. ”
The song "Resign to Surrender" was published on the band's label website on September 23.[3]

The video for "Unleashed" premiered on the band's Myspace site on September 25. The physical and digital release dates for the single are yet to be revealed.[4]

That's the jist of the notification. I thought it would at least last a few days

Edit: It works if it's embedded, so it works here still?

Shitty. I listened to the song quite a few times earlier, I really like their newer work.

Awesome song. I'm completely confused by the video, though.

The songwriting is finally starting to shape up into something great, and the new drummer is enjoyable, unlike the irritating dude they used for the Divine Conspiracy. His blast beat style was completely inappropriate and almost ruined the album. And Mark Jansen is finally learning how to create a song with consistent, listenable structure.

The 200+ mile trip to Tulsa to see them again (and with Simone this time!!!!) will totally be worth it. Can't wait...

I agree with you completely. Epica songs were just hits or misses with the odd song structures. I can't recall any specific songs off the top of my head, but many times the transitions between a melodic and aggressive part was painful, very forced. The first thing I noticed about Resign To Surrender was that the transitions were smooth and didn't crash in to your face wondering what the hell just happened.

Epica has two very solid songs that are getting a decent amount of attention from the metal community, I only hope the rest of the album isn't filler.

Please no devilish voices. It totally rapes the purity that is Simone Simmons.

So can anyone offer an explanation for the video?

I can't figure out why the band is tormenting the guy, when his only evident wrongdoing is getting shot in his own home.

It's like Within Temptation's Angel's video, but without the justification.

My guess is that he was "rejecting" death hence why he was being stalked by "death". At the end, he accepts it.

Love me some Epica.

Seen them live a few times, though the last show I went to was tainted. I had 2 guys with me who've never seen them, was promising them a good show and a hot ass lead singer, but that was when Simone had MERCER or whatever that staph/hospital infection crap is and we got the fatty backup singer. I guess I should have done a little research beforehand, but whatever.

This album is amazing. Epica's best, hands down. I think I had Kingdom Of Heaven (A New Age Dawns - Part V) on repeat for about 2 hours at work. The album is all killer, no filler.
