Great Indie Music site

This site got posted somewhere, in some thread, but I can't find it for the life of me. For the last couple weeks I've been addicted to this site.
If you enjoy discovering new music, they actually make a mini-game out of it, and there's some good stuff on there. To start off, you have quests to do that reward reputation and hearts. Reputation = exp points, basically, the higher your rep the higher your level. When you first join, the quests you get basically show you how to use the site.
Hearts are used as a mark of a quality on a song. If you like a song, you use a heart on it. The exact formula has yet to be reverse engineered, but basically if you heart a song and it goes on to become more popular from there, you get rep for that. When you get higher level, you can throw more hearts on a song.

Yea, it's a referral link, but it'll make it easier for you to complete certain quests later if you use my referral think. For example, there's a quest that requires you to get 4 people you've invited to listen to the same artist at the same time. BUT, it works upstream too, so if you are one of MY 4 people, you'll get credit for it also.

Wherever this site got posted before, some one said the site seemed to be too much coffee shop music. While there isn't any real metal to speak of, and while there are definitely a lot of 'Death Cab for Cutie' and folk rock influenced bands, there's a bunch of good electronic music for sure. There's also some gems in the less popular channels, reggae/classical/blues/etc.. but not enough if that's the only music you like.

Upbeat, catchy, with good vocals, remix of a song I've never heard of -_-

Great NES inspired song, and there's quite a few bands that do good video game music if you like that.

Jaded Hipster anthem

some pretty awesome nerdcore rap, if a internet troll was a good rapper.

Another awesome band that uses NES sounds, but not just game music covers.

A couple 'coffee shop' indie rock songs, but very good.
This one is hilarious.

Top rated song at the moment. While I like it a lot, don't think it should the absolute top song. Lead singer sounds like the guy from Fastball.

This was on a commercial, but I can't remember which one.

The last great "new" indie song I heard was back in 2007. After that there are very few indie titles worth listening to. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Are you using indie as a style or a definition? Indie has become a way to describe some music, even though they are signed with big labels. This site has some well known bands, but there's a TON of true indie artists. Making music on their computer and trying to sell it on the site. Hell, there's a lot of bootleg remixes on there even. Of course, a lot of independent artists are crap.. there's a reason they haven't been signed. But, it's fun to discover the good stuff amidst the crap.

'Indie' has just come to be used as a way to classify a genre of music that is relatively unknown, whether a band is without label, on a low-key label, or even a major label.

I'll check this out when I get home later. I'm always interested in finding new stuff and I especially enjoy the 'indie' scene.
