| Metric - This band kicks sooooo much fucking ass. They hail from Toronto. 1) Their lyrics are just genius for the most part. 2) They have a female vocalist who has one of the greatest stage presences I've seen. 3) I mention how much ass they kick? Check out this torrent for their latest CD. I Suggest you try and get their first CD as well (Old World Underground) http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3395062 If you want some samples: Get "Empty" from the new cd and "I.O.U" or "Dead Disco" from the older one. You can see the video for "Dead Disco" plus some other stuff here: http://www.ilovemetric.com/media.html edit: Couldn't find the indie rock thread, so put it here (found it in the search) - Holy SHIT this is an old thread. Oh well. Last edited by Bralkan : 05-21-2006 at 07:30 PM. |

+26 Internets | I love DFA's album, You're a Woman and I'm a Robot (machine? can't remember). I've always been a big fan of bass guitar since I first heard Primus, so a band with only a bassist and a drummer/vocalist (that's also fairly unique) is right up my alley. Saw Sam Roberts last night at the Starlite Room, fucking awesome show, just awesome. |

| Another great Canadian band is Protest the Hero. They've just launched their first album called Kezia, it's an amazing concept album. Particularly impressive considering they're only 20. They're gonna be big. |

| Nobody's mentioned Godspeed You! Black Emperor and their spinoff bands yet (A silver Mount Zion, Fly Pan Am, Hrsta, etc etc) as well as the rest of the Montreal scene. The best post-rock available. I think Do Make Say Think are canadian as well. A Silver Mt. Zion are on tour now (UK and later US), should definately see them if they're in your area. Also worthy of a mention are The Hidden Cameras The Arcade Fire Neil Young (!!!) And if you like techno (or even if you don't), check out Jesse Somfay, a young kid that made one of the very best songs of 2005 - This Fragile Addiction. Canada is a great land musicwise. EDIT, well i guess someone did mention GYBE before. They're worthy of being mentioned again. Last edited by thorn : 05-21-2006 at 03:19 PM. |

I think I'm very lucky to live in Vancouver because The fox FUCKING rocks. They host so many concerts (but Tool decided to not come to vancouver T_T). For example, they hosted a Tragically Hip show awhile ago and the only way you can get in is to WIN tickets on CFox (vancouver only and a small venue, I think Richards on Richards), which was pretty cool, if you get in. Also, they give away a lot of tickets to concerts and events that they host (almost daily). | |

| Whoa, no one mentioned Cryptopsy? Fantastic technical/prog death metal from Canada, with an incredible drummer, Flo Mournier, who has jazz "training and influences" and he definately brings is one of the big reasons why I like the band. Their original vocalist, Lord Worm, is pretty amazing, too. edit: it appears Apocalyptica are also from Canada, most well-known for their cello covers of Metallica, but I prefer their own material... +26 Internets | A lot of bands haven't been mentioned here cause only the last dozen or so posts are recent, the rest is 3+ years old ![]() Sam Roberts for example has put out two full length albums since my original post. |
