Original line-up Motorhead: Lemmy, Philthy, Fast Eddie. Never have 3 people made so much noise

Honourable Mention to Snuff but not many people will have heard of them I'll wager

Cream/Primus.

I've always thought Nirvana was the most overrated band in history. Wow, my name is Kurt Cobaine and I can write 3 chord grunge songs with bleak meaningless lyrics, I'm the greatest musician of the 90's.

Nirvana gets their name as a revolutionary band because of the grunge movement they kicked into full gear. Some people can say that about the Beatles - but to ignore their influence on music from that point on is just not looking at the entire picture.

Nirvana was HUGE, and I say this as someone who isn't a fan of their music.

Hated Nirvana.. still do, but they were at the forefront of the grunge stuff.. Personally I think the Foo Fighters are much better.. anyway..

Triumph.. OMG. they're Canadien even..
Rush
Primus

Ben Folds 5.. Yes.. they only had 3 members.

Cream is a good one too..

flecktones

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones used to be a three man group. They are one of the best live show you can ever see.

No 3-piece has been more influencial, ever. That alone is enough to tip the scales away from such self indulgent and musically ignorant acts as Cream and Rush.
Ok, not liking them is one thing and all a matter of taste, but calling Rush musically ignorant is pretty fucking ignorant on your part. All three members of Rush are amazing musicians.

My vote for best three piece...

Rush. The Police would be next.

Agreed. . .Victor Wooten is a freakin monster bass player.

But I'm gonna have to agree with Fungul - The Police is definately the best 3-piece band
