Shakira is reputed to be a studio tyrant, demanding complete creative control over everything she does. Some of her material is co-written by others, but she has a hand in everything she records. Her first english album is kinda simplistic (lyrically), but she's only been speaking the language for 2 years, and her Spanish language stuff is apparently amazing.

Problem with Rammstein is that only a minority understands their german lyrics and if you just listen to them in the background, then you won't get the meaning of their words, even if you are able to understand german.

About the subject:
Slipknot or however those untalented tards are written! Horrible music!
Most hiphop hitting the cd shelves as well. Guys are singing about their misfortune in life and all that shit while they are showing off all their *ice*. Fuck you losers and do something for your bros and homies you are singing about instead of buying mo' *ice*.

Slipknot is shit, but Corey's "side" band, Stone Sour, is pretty good IMO.

Since they were mentioned so many times, I've got to defend System of a Down as well. With heavy political commentary, their lyrics actually mean something, whether you agree with them or not (I personally think some of it is misguided). They also have an outstanding sense of negative space, unheard of in any other heavy metal band that I've heard (see: "Sugar"). The singer can sing, his voice is awesome. They balance very well from heavy to soft parts, the softer up-tempo parts sound to me like they would go well to a demented circus (see: "Suggestions" and "Peephole") which adds a whole other level of appreciaton IMO. And of course there is the plain bizzare (see: "Johnny").

If you grouped them with acts such as Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit because they are a metal act that is successful around the same time these guys are out, I suggest giving them another listen, SOAD is nothing like the others.

I must defend SoaD as well. These guys are a terrific band; their music is smart, melodic, complex and original. The fact that they're pulling it off when 95% of other popular acts are absolute garbage says even more about their quality.
