| Since there are some seriously next-level guitar folks here, I'm gonna put in my question now, even though I can't get the thing out of storage and start playing again for another month. As is my method, here's the backstory: About 6 years ago, my wife and I separated for about half a year. During that time, I was in a pretty bad place, mentally and emotionally. One Saturday, I have NO clue why, I happened into the desire for a couple of power tools to work on something in the garage. So, being the cheap fuck I am, I went to a couple of pawnshops to check out the used selections first. Now, I picked up a guitar as a young man, and played for about 12 years. I have no natural talent, musically. It takes me 3 or 4 times as long as most to learn to play a song...it's pure repetitive muscle memory. But I enjoy it. Now, shortly after my purchase, the wife and I got back together but had to move into a TINY house, and the guitars went into storage. EMC custom (Kirk Hammet's), a 'caster (SRV), and a Les Paul (Slash). I've also done a couple of custom restores and by-hand artwork on a few friends' axes. We're moving June 1, and I'll have room to bring them out and play them again. So, I'm gonna bring it out! I'll post pics of it in a month. Anyhow, in the third pawnshop I went into that Saturday, I found the proprieter of the store going through HUGE piles of boxes and assorted junk...he had bought a couple of storage units at auction, and the movers had just unloaded everything a little while earlier. He was doing the 'quick once-over' to see what he got before going back and being methodical about it and inventorying. So, I walk in, chitchat with the guy a bit. After perusing the tools (bought a sander and a jigsaw) and approaching the counter to pay, my wandering gaze happens over an odd looking, dust covered guitar on a box. I looked at it, on a whim asked what he wanted for it. He barely glanced up, shrugged, and said $200. I snagged it. Now, I know SOME about guitars, but nothing compared to what's in THIS forum. My google-fu has failed me, thus I turn to y'all. I'm not sure if I paid $200 for a piece of shit or not. It doesn't FEEL like it, but I could be wrong. I think I got a one-piece Stratocaster. The neck and the body are one solid piece. Not two pieces. One giant piece. And the wood grain is...odd. I can't describe it very well without pics, I know. I'm thinking to lay the groundwork, then get pics when I bring it out. Does such a thing exist? Commonly? |

+15 Internets | If the neck and body are one piece, it is either a set-neck or neck-thru guitar. If the grain continues from the neck to the body, it is a neck-thru. I do not believe Fender ever made any set-neck or neck-thru strats, but I could be completely wrong as I am not a guitar guy. Bass is my field.

+12 Internets | Since I just hang out in this thread, here's me singing: http://www.chrisquigley.com/audio/foryou.mp3 Not metal at all, very personal tune, crappy arrangement and drums, but whatever, this is that I sound like.

+12 Internets | And here I am recording a tune for my album. My shitty P&S camera butchers the audio and I do indeed wear that ridiculous hat every time I record anything, but I figured it was worth throwing up. I'm punching in, so the beginning/end are just crap.

Dude... I would love to hear an actual good recording of that. It sounds good on the video, but would like to hear the "muscle" in it more which the video doesn't let ya hear. Other than that... would listen to it again. Sounds very Testament..ish to me.

| I agree with Occido. From just that poor recording alone it sounded pretty killer. Would def love to hear a mastered version.

You can get brand names like Ibanez, ESP, B.C.Rich all in the 2 to $300 range. Just have to look around.
