So now, I use EMG's, Dimarzzio(sp) Air classics/Tone Zonez and Piezo. Thanks for the recommendation for these things, they're badass.

| This is my setup, nothing fancy, just a Schecter Diamond Series Jazz bass and a Ashdown 4x10 cab with a MAG 300 head. I've just gotten into the equipment side of playing, after playing on a shitty Ibanez 10-watt amp for a year. (the one hiding in the bottom right corner)

You don't have to go balls out on your first guitar, but don't go cheap either. You can get a great entry-level axe these days from brands like Ibanez/Schecter for around $300-400. Go any lower than that, and you'll end up with something that plays like shit, sounds like shit, and most importantly for the new guitarist - will NOT stay in tune worth a damn. You'll spend more time tuning it than you will playing it, and instead of enjoying your new hobby, it'll be an exercise in frustration. If you have a budget in mind, I can help point you at something decent that fits it, but definitely do NOT get a Gio.

| I'm a sucker for a nice LP, you can find a nice used Epi for under 300. That's what I paid for mine. Obviously this LA, and I don't know where you are, but I'm sure there are similar deals to be found: Les Paul Epiphone Electric Guitar

Edit** Graphtech and RMC are the only ones I know of that do these systems, are there any others? I don't know too much about these pickups and 13 pin systems these things are all about. I actually had no clue they existed till Hathe turned me on to them some months back.
