| Looking for bass amp/cab recommendations Basically I'm looking to upgrade from my Behringer BX1200 Ultrabass Bass Amplifier (120 Watts, 2-Channel) from zZounds.com! now that I'm in a band and we're playing shows. Money (student) and then size (not a lot of cargo space in my Corolla )are my two biggest constraints. I intend to go for something used and the absolute most I'll spend is $400. I've come across what seems like some pretty good deals on craigslist but really don't have much experience with what's good and what isn't much past a very general brand ranking ie Crate < SWR.As far as specs/direction, I don't think I really need any more than 300W. I have a Musicman Sterling and play mostly rock/alt/punk type stuff. Available in my area: classifieds - craigslist Thanks in advance.

| If there's Kijiji for your area, definitely check it out those listings. That's where I do a majority of my gear purchases. Bought a 300w Ashdown combo for $300 and I live in a pretty small town. Typically there are a lot of Peavey's for sale or Yorkvilles but you won't want anything like that. What I got was a steal. You might be hard pressed to find something sufficient for under $400

+15 Internets | Rule #1, stay the fuck away from Behringer. I was in the same boat as you 5 years ago and Behringer failed me horribly. Look reviews up just about anywhere, they're made very poorly. Luckily I sold the cab before anything went wrong and the guy who purchased it had one speaker fall out within a few weeks. My current rig is all I need for the little I do and I have hardly any $$ in it. Ampeg B2R amp - roughly $200 used, SWR (pre-Fender) Workingman 1x15 - got this one at a clearence sale for $100, and an Ampeg SVT 4x10 - roughly $400-600 used. The 1x15 is punchy as hell and gives me all the low end I need, but I do a lot of two-hand work with my band so I need some clarity on the higher notes. I spent about $500 over time on the rig and I don't believe I have ever been past volume-5 in a live setting. Look around for something used and always ask the seller if you can try it before you buy it. Make sure you're getting into something you'll enjoy and find fitting for your bands music.

| Funny you should mention Behringer :-) I have a BX1200, but I don't gig with it, just practice at home. Had it for around 6 years, and it's been more than fine as I've used it (no gigs, just practice at home). I certainly don't have any illusions about it being anything other than what it is, but it has served me well. Oh, and no luck on Kijiji, craigslist always has quite a few options though. I'll pick something up one of these days when I'm less poor... or there's a good deal and I'm feeling impulsive.

+12 Internets | Behringer is good for some things, like small recording gear and odds and ends. I have a 16 channel mixer and a rack HPA from them that I've owned for ages with no problems, but I'd never rely on them for anything like an amp. I'm no bassist, but Hartke is what 99% of the guys that I know swear by. $400 is a tough cap though if you plan on playing with a drummer at all.

+15 Internets | The amplifier is definitely powerful enough, but that seems a little pricey for your budget. If it's all you can find, look around for a 1x15 or 4x10 cab to match with the amp. See which fits your bands style better.
