Clash with out a doubt. I think they really brought music to punk whereas Sex Pistols (which I like and like PIL even more) and other bands of the era were just thrashing noise and mostly one hit wonders. Siouxise and the Banshee's were pretty good to.

Whoever took a jab at the Go-Go's, they were fairly hard core punk prior to getting a record deal going they "sold out" so to speak. I forget the name of the album but there is one out with some rare live stuff that is pretty raw.

Husker Du, The Replacements, The Fall and The Slits. And The Damned, who deserve more attention, as they pretty much had all the punk firsts.

Add The Ruts to that list.

Hardocre is a term that could probly use a little extra definition cos it's been used so much to apply to so many different things is almost as useless a term as 'rock music'

Murphy's Law
Hatebreed
Dropkick Murphys
Youth of Today
Slapshot

Hatebreed old school? On that list, AF, Murphy's Law, Youth of Today and Slapshot all started in the mid 80s, with AF starting in the early 80s.

Hatebreed on the other hand started in the mid 90s and got their entire style and sound from Integrity. In the early days of Hatebreed, Jamie was heavily influenced by Dwid.

Hatebreed is a good band, but they will never be like early Integrity was. For Those Who Fear Tomorrow is one of the best hardcore records of the 90s if not THE best.

And I would put the Dropkick Murphy's on the punk list. Different Style....

Hardcore is - in a nutshell - too metal to be punk and too punk to be metal. If you are a part of the hardcore scene you understand that there is what the outside world thinks and then there is our little microcosm we call hardcore.

We dance harder than punks or heschers.
Our Music is much more aggressive than punk and has more groove than metal.
A large portion of the hardcore scene is straight edge.

From Bad Brains and Minor Threat to Most Precious Blood and 18 Visions - Hardcore has always been just a little different than punk.

Hardcore is punk rocks aggressive younger brother thats always getting into fights
