I'm not so convinced by bush-league harmonic analysis. He found two songs with similar chord progressions (in different keys), and incorrectly identified the keys anyway (minor issue with circular pop music 'grooves'). On the basis of this and evoking similar moods he says Coldplay is in trouble?

The direction this video should have gone in, and it would've taken 2 minutes instead of 9;

• Here are two songs with a IV(ii)-V-I-vi progression!
• There are only about 10,000 other songs written in the last few months that also use this progression.
• The keys (Ab major and D major) are separated by a tritone and are as harmonically foreign from each other as possible, so you must be searching (and transposing) to notice similarities in the first place
• Nonetheless similar melodic material is bound to arise when songwriters use similar progressions. This is a consequence of the confines of tonality, not subversive songwriting.
• If you aren't satisfied with Western tonality go listen to Harry Partch. See you back here in 5 minutes.

Its too bad they took down that blend of both songs. I liked it a lot.

The settlement should just be: Satriani and Coldplay work on a remix using Satriani's guitar and coldplays lyrics, make a new, better song and just split the money. I"m sure it'd rake in it, maybe even a new apple commercial

The blend required changing the tempo of the Coldplay song to fit the slower tempo of the Satriani song, along with some other rhythmic alterations. Played around with both of them in Garage Band the other day. Very similar, but changes do have to made to one song or the other to make it work.
