| Hmm...I'll try to limit it to one album per band. Some of my favorite albums(in no particular order): Alice in Chains - Dirt This album was my first introduction to this band, and I think it is their best work. Probably one of the more depressing hard rock albums ever made. ![]() Transatlantic - Bridge across Forever If you aren't familar with Dream Theater, you probably haven't heard this album. This was a side project put together by the drummer for Dream Theater(Mike Portnoy). Although the album only has 4 songs on it, it clocks in at about 77 minutes. It's hard to describe the music on it; Try to imagine The Beatles meet Yes meet Phish(that's the best I can do ).Dream Theater - Awake Dream Theater is a progressive hard rock band that contains 5 of the most technically proficient musicians in modern rock. As such, their music can sometimes tend to excess, but on this album they display some of their best songwriting. The album has a much darker, heavier feel than most of their other work. The Mirror/Lie are probably their most accessible songs if you have never heard them before (also, Lie has one of the best outros of all time . Petrucci's solo is godly). A lot of people can't get past their vocalist, however, so your mileage may vary. The Beatles - Abbey Road I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I love this album. Especially everything after "I Want You(She's so Heavy)"; To me that all feels like one song. Soundgarden - Superunknown I love Chris Cornell's voice, so I generally like anything he's associated with. Every song on this album is good; If you don't own any Soundgarden albums, get this one first. Metallica - ...and Justice for All Probably their most complex songwriting. Anything before the Black album is consistently good; This just happens to be my favorite. Opeth - Blackwater Park This album turned me off at first because of the "death metal" vocals, but after I listened to it a couple of times I was blown away. This band is incredibly talented. Nirvana - In Utero Not much to say about this one. I like "Nevermind", but it is too slick sounding for me. The production is a little more raw on this one. Tool - Lateralus This album is epic. ![]() Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile/ The Downward Spiral Couldn't decide which one I liked better. ![]() |

| I'd pick any Nine Inch Nails as my fave. Not only is Trent a kick ass lyricist but his music is just getting better and better. For that reason alone I like The Fragile a shit load. The thematic melodies that pervade the album are so awesome. I like the instrumental tracks just as much as the normal ones. But I couldn't say I like it more the Pretty Hate Machine or any other one just because each one is such a big step in a new direction. Coincidentally NIN The Fragile was produced by the same dude that did The Wall for PF. I never really got into Pink Floyd that much myself. It is good music to listen to when youre fucked up, I'll give it that. Also on my list (no order): Orbital - In Sides (I don;t like electronica stuff that much, but this is just that damn good) Tori - Under the Pink Beck - Mutations (hard choice, Beck is a damn genius) Garbage - Version 2.0 Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters Dre - Chronic Wu Tang - 36 Chambers Prick - Prick (anyone ever hear what happened to this band, I haven't heard shit) U2 - War

| I generally don't bump dead threads, but this was a great one that I just remembered and wanted to reread it for album ideas. I figured I might not be alone, and hence the bump.
